Absolutely diabolical. Never have I ever had such hassle setting up a service. Shell are undoubtedly the worst Broadband provider the planet has to offer.
The router arrived over a week late, The service which I was informed was live didnt even work when the router did arrive. Upon trying to close my contract before the first bill even came through, they’re attempting to charge me the closing fee of £308 despite the fact that I havent even been able to use the service through no fault of my own. Truly despicable, absolutely useless. If you have the option between Shell and no broadband, youd be better off with no internet.read more
Do not take out this for your broadband & phone as they do not tell you when your contract runs out & do not care that when your in hospital for 4 weeks & cannot use their services they still want full payment even though you contact them
I would give these guys negative stars if possible. Whatever you do, DO NOT get them to change your meter to a smart meter. The initial meter they installed was dodgy (kept resulting in power cuts and damaged numerous devices in my house). It then took them 6 months for an appointment to install a new meter. And throughout this time my father had pulmonary fibrosis so had an oxygen concentrator connected to the mains so any power cuts in the night could have been life threatening.read more

I have been without broadband for a week now. Shell finally sent me a new router on second class service even though I said it was urgent it was sorted. Customer service completely unhelpful. Shame I have to wait 7 months until I can leave them. 5 days since the router was sent and they refuse to contact Royal Mail for an update.

Absolutely CRAP. Being charged for phone calls I did not make have been transferred 6 times so far and the last person played silent… bunch of jokers I’m absolutely FUMING..!!!
As a household in Orkney that runs of “green energy”, so an all electric household the service and pricing from Shell is horrendous. Due to being a high usage household we are finding that despite submitting meter readings on time, we are not being billed at the end of the month. Apparently Shell blocks the account, so no bill is sent. Until the next month when Shell kindly bill you for 2 months worth of electricity. I only found this out about bill blocking by calling up speaking to a sarcastic little @@@@ employed by them. If Shell are going to not bill customers who have high usage, an email would probably help. Instead Shell left me with a 2 month bill for just over a £1000. Is it a coincidence that I also refuse to pay by direct debit? Is it coincidence that just after my call to Shell, I get an emailing about paying by direct debit? I only actually found out about the account blocking of high users by raising a complaint. Dreadful company, milking the working man dry. Scum of the earth.read more

Comments Such a terrible service. No practical help given when I phoned for help when broadband went off completely.Except being asked to unscrew something from wall. When I refused was told that bcos I’d refused to carry out test it would probably cost me £65 for an engineer to call. I refused an engineer and raised a complaint. Broadband came back on after about 3 and a half hours. Lost valuable time to do some work. Complaint was ” closed” after a few weeks without any correspondence fro. Shell addressing g complaint or explaining how it was resolved. Continued to have problems. Tv in bedroo. Couldn’t pick up signal fro. Router about 25 feet away. Tv in sitting room constantly buffering or going off completely. Phoned to complain and said I wanted to leave. Told it would be £184 termination fee. I said the service was no good and they were at fault. Operator said I’d refused e ginger initially so basically I’d refused help. I said I only refused bcos previous Operator said because I’d refused to carry out test in my home by unscrewing the box and would have to pay the £65. Upshot is I was receiving very little service so I changed provider phoned Shell explained why I was cancelling. Have now got really good service etc with new provider. Shell just emailed to say they’re billing me £184. I’ve been advised to contact Ombudsman but I’ll pay the money draw a line under the whole terrible experience BUT will be very vocal in telling g people to avoid Shell due to my horrendous interaction with the company and its reoresentativesread more
Another worthless response from Shell claiming they have settled the ombudsman decision by way of credit.
This saga is nearing its first anniversary now and Shell who have made first quarter profits in 2023 of £7 billion continue their refusal to settle what they owe me… a mere £1083.65.
They continue their pursuit of this supposed debt with threatening phone calls always early morning and written correspondence. Absolutely disgraceful. Either they think I’m stupid or they are..with the responses they offer to my complaint. The responses they offer are fundamentally wrong and if their billing experts consider there response is correct I would suggest they consider a career change.
Do NOT join Shell it will be your worst nightmare, nothing short of daylight robbery. You have all been warned. Act 374080read more

Within six months, however, she had suffered an 18-day broadband outage due to the wrong router being sent to her London home, a series of incorrect bills for more than she was due to pay, and even problems with her house alarm. When she tried to complain, she says she received confusing and frustrating responses.
“It appears Shell Energy decided to use an initial tactic of not responding to complaints, then dismissing them and closing them,” she says
“I had a number of emails claiming they had been resolved and closed, despite not having received any responses. The strategy was to confuse and distort facts, and ignore my complaints,” she says.

Terrible connection and even worse customer service. Router will disconnect almost every 20-30mins and can take 17 mins to load a photograph, or 9 mins to load a Google page, even while sitting next to the router. If you want to cancel, you’ll be transferred to different departments and made to explain why you’re cancelling to every one of them, just for them to pass you to someone else and explain all over again. Even if you ask them to log a complaint, they just email you saying they’ve closed your complaint, without actually speaking to you at all regarding it. If you want to pay for wifi but never actually intend on using it whatsoever, then this is perfect for you.read more
Disgusting. Disorganised. Impersonal service. I was ‘allocated’ Shell after Green went bust. Never again. I’ve gone back to EDF energy who, in 2 emails, set up my account in the correct way. Never again will I use this company. And don’t bother with your insincere response. I’ve got loads of emails telling me you strive for excellent customer service. Terrible service!!!!!!! their website doesn’t allow for inputting meter readings in Jun 2022 to Dec 2022. Then i called them and provide meter readings I’m still getting estimated bills. And then i submitted the readings online in recent months. They mentioned that they never received the accurate the meter reading in until this month, and provide inaccurate bill for over the last 10 months.read more

Never experienced such terrible customer service – clearly got no process in place for working effectively with OpenReach, delay after delay, engineers turning up without a clue what they are doing. I’d avoid at all costs as I’ve wasted 2 months trying to get this sorted. When I told them I was cancelling and going to BT because they will likely be better at wrangling OpenReach the operator just said “yeah probably” – even their own people know it’s not good enough.read more

Shell took over from Post Office broadband. Since then the internet service has got worse and worse. The speeds are terrible and the connection keeps going down. Avoid buying this broadband at all cost. Should be banned from comparison sites. I have had the broadband for 3 days, haven’t got it working yet. Rang up to cancel for free in my “14 day cooling off period” to be told this actually ended 2 days ago, the day the line was taken over by Shell. Currently trying to charge me £110 to cancel a service I’ve had for 3 days that hasn’t worked once. Only saving grace has been a couple of people on the phone who have been willing to try to find a way a round this.read more
Shell have been reported to OFGEM and The Serious Fraud Office. The Maximum they can charge customers in my area for electric is 36p last october the put my bill upto in excess of 39p and in january to 41p + According to Citizens advice this is illegal. Check you bills and if they are overcharging you report to Citizens Advice and seriuous fraud office. The more who do the more chance there is of them bveing prosecuted and you getting compensationread more

Stay clear! I moved over from Virgin Media and had absolute terrible broadband speed from the get go. It was an absolute nightmare to get in touch with support.
First I tried the phone, just to wait ages in a holding loop to then having the line suddenly interrupted when I was finally talking with someone. Then I tried email and nobody answered for a week. And even then it was a very slow back and forth with them not taking it serious.
Finally reached someone on the phone, just to be told it must be the WiFi router and I should reset it and connect it to another outlet. And after I’ve done that, I had to wait again for hours to talk to someone.
I then tried to cancel as it was an absolute nightmare, and they just outright rejected it. Months later after the communications ombudsman, finally someone came out and fixed it. Speed is now perfect, but too late, because I had to extend Virgin Media as the Shell line wasn’t working.read more
Shell broadband is awful. Poor signal. When you do get a signal it drops off. No person to call for help and they send you email instructions – no good if you have no internet and have to use mobile data. When you can read your emails they send you the same information over and over again
Complete and absolute nightmare. Where can I start been with them sine 2018 no problem smart meter reading always worked. Then in January 2023 smart meter failed to communicate so an estimate bill was generated wait for it £2500 for one month!!. I immediately phoned and complained they advised it would be corrected in February bill it wasn’t another bill for £1500 so phoned and asked to make a proper complaint I was transferred through to complaints department who said they would sort this out and contact me now at end of Feb and still waiting for them to contact me as they said they would. My bill is now showing i owe Shell £3800 for two months gas and this is not including electric.read more

I’m on a fixed broadband contact but have just been told my bill is being increased from April, the contract is ‘FIXED’ but they are increasing the price only 2 months into an 18 months contract. Scam, a big scam and they won’t let me leave without paying £97.93. The service they provide is horrendous too, just checked the internet speed at 16:55pm and it’s upload 0.72 mbps. You read it right, “0.72”! Upload and 12.9 download.We had lower readings from them on different times/days.read more

Phoned up to tell them a move date. It was like I’d ask them to solve the meaning of life. Got transferred 7 times and then ended up back at he original South African call centre. They do not have a clue what they’re doing. Completely and utterly hopeless.

Phoned 1 week ago in regards to faulty gas meter and told new one installed 2 months away. New estimated bill is 5 times higher than highest usage on any month over last 12months. Phoned to query, transferred 6 times due to customer service not being able to transfer to relevant department. Promised an email confirming what we spoke of but nothing received and also customer service adviser refused to escalate call as she was clearly not understanding my enquiry. Download speeds of less than 6MBPS when the package I pay for alleges 15 to 17 MBPS. When queried the allegation was that the fault lay with my internal wiring. Shell Energy has been told to “get a grip” after a surge in broadband and landline complaints.
The telecoms regulator Ofcom also said it was monitoring the firm’s performance because its complaints volume remains far higher than its rivals.
Shell Energy, which started providing broadband in 2016, had 27 complaints per 100,000 broadband customers between July and September 2022 and 20 complaints per 100,000 landline customers. It was also the worst in the previous three months, when it received 31 and 23 complaints per 100,000 customers respectively.
Shell Energy Broadband said: “Ofcom’s table reflects our position up to six months ago. Since then we have invested heavily and made big strides in our processes.

UK News: Ofcom has urged Shell Energy to “get a grip” on broadband and landline complaints after the firm attracted significantly higher volumes than other providers.
BT Mobile, Virgin Mobile and iD Mobile are the most complained-about mobile operators, according to the regulator’s latest figures.
Ofcom said it is monitoring Shell’s performance closely.
The regulator said: “We have been engaging with the provider and urged it to get a grip on identifying and addressing the root causes of these issues.
“As always, should we identify specific concerns with how our rules are being followed, we will consider whether it is appropriate to take formal action.”
Virgin Media continued to generate the most pay TV complaints, Ofcom said.
Overall, the volume of complaints between July and September were broadly in line with the previous three months.
Sky had the fewest pay TV and broadband complaints, while EE joined Sky as the least complained-about landline providers.read more
Shell has put more than 2,000 jobs in the UK at risk after launching a “strategic review” of its domestic energy and telecoms supply division.
The oil and gas supermajor said on Thursday that it had told staff in Shell Energy, which has operations in the UK, the Netherlands and Germany, that it has begun analysis of future options for the business, which could include exiting the sectors.
The UK business, which is headquartered just outside Coventry, has 1.4 million energy customers and about 500,000 broadband users.
The company said it had made the decision against the backdrop of a strategy which includes “continually exploring options to maximise the value of our portfolio and address performance in tough market conditions”.

Oil giant Shell has raised questions about the future of its energy supply business which employs thousands of people in the UK as companies continue to struggle in a tough market.
Shell said it will launch a “strategic review” of Shell Energy, including its operations in the UK, the Netherlands and Germany.
Launched in 2008 as First Utility and bought a decade later by the oil major, Shell Energy employs around 2,000 people in the UK.
It supplies energy to around 1.4 million homes across the country and broadband to around half a million customers.
It was not clear what options are being looked at by Shell for the unit. Companies who put their business units up for review often sell or restructure them, but sometimes keep them unchanged.
“No decisions have yet been taken on the way forward and our priority remains to ensure our customers in those countries continue to receive a reliable and affordable energy supply, and to provide support for customers who are struggling with the cost of energy and wider cost-of-living pressures,” Shell said on Thursday.read more

Shell to Review Household Energy Businesses in UK, Netherlands, Germany

Shell PLC on Thursday said it is starting a strategic review of its home energy retail business in the U.K., the Netherlands and Germany, but stressed that no decisions have yet been made.
The London-based energy giant said that the review is likely to take a number of months, adding that the wholesale and B2B energy supply businesses aren’t part of this review.
It didn’t say whether any jobs would be affected by the decision, but confirmed that Shell Energy Retail Ltd. currently employs around 2,000 people.
Shell said that the review is part of its ‘power progress’ strategy which includes exploring options to address performance in tough market conditions and maximize the value of its portfolio.
The company’s priority remains to ensure customers in those countries continue to receive their energy supply, and to provide support for those who are struggling with the cost of energy and wider cost-of-living pressures, it said.read more

My service with shell went live on the 1st Nov 22, a few drop outs of service occasionally, but nothing major, it did not affect streaming or kids gaming etc, so we can live with it. The 9th December was the last day of any broadband (I miss watching Netflix on a big screen) The router is just displaying the information light and nothing more, its not making any attempt to connect, so I make all the required checks, resets, switching it off etc to no avail. I get through to Shell quite easily and the tech guy seems genuinely helpful, line tests carried out etc and says open reach need to come out which will take 3 to 4 days, but nothing is confirmed until I hear from them. I explained that I felt the router was probably the issue and questioned if it would make more sense to have a new router sent out first rather than waste time and money on an engineer, he says its not possible.read more

Unbelievably bad. Have spoken to 7 different Shell, so called ‘customer advices, people. They have been polite but obviously make it up as they go along. They pretend they are referring to my notes but have no record of anything. Have waited ,in 2 whole days for engineers I was told would come, either AM or PM and would text me to confirm time. They didn’t come or text. I am being charged for a service I am not receiving. I have wasted hours phoning or waiting for Open Reach. I am under contract and want terminate but apparently can’t, or have to pay a severence fee. That is so wrong. Do not use this company originally with the Post Office but went with Shell when they took over. Broadband speed was way to slow and unreliable. Customer service is a joke and finally moved supplier.Asked to return ancient router or would be charged £35. Returned Router with letter and proof of postage. 2 month later and various phone calls to tell them the router had been returned they still wanted the £35 paid . Terrible customer service, WiFi has been working intermittently, I have been ringing up asking for this to be fixed, which was finally done after Christmas. I was cut off twice on the phone.
Ordered broadband from shell in December with a go live date of 20th December. After 16 days still no broadband and customer service can not give me a date when the broadband will be working. Avoid.read more

No problems when with the Post Office but now continual problems with Shell broadband speed and its continuity. I’m supposed to receive a speed between 35 Mbs and 45 Mbs. I get as low as 11 Mbs. I complain for which one has to wait around 30 mins for someone to answer the phone. I’m told that I must give 3 possible days when an engineer needs to visit but be prepared to be charged if I’m not at home but for which there is no reciprocal arrangement if the engineer doesn’t turn up, which has happened to me. In fact the problem can be solved without an engineer’s visit and this can be undertaken remotely. Then my speed is restored to around 36 Mbs (min for me should be 35) after which it is slowly decreased until I have to complain again. It seems like I’m being robbed of the service I pay for. As it can be quickly reset I believe that it is my ISP who is throttling my speed. Broken contract – new provider here I come.read more

I have been a loyal Post Office customer for over 15 years. Then Shell Energy took over and what a shambles ensured. I would not recommend this company if it was the only one on the planet. Customer service is non-existent, when you finally get through to someone you get an absolute idiot who has no idea what they are talking about.I was told that I could download a label to send back equipment and you cannot, you need to send an email to request a label. Surely they could have told you that over the telephone, absolute crap customer service.Glad to leave, if you wish to have decent customer service then go somewhere else and do not bother with this rubbish. MORE INFORMATION: Contact details for over 176,000 employees and contractors of Royal Dutch Shell reached John Donovan and some environmental and human rights groups, ostensibly from disaffected Shell staff calling for a “peaceful corporate revolution” at the company. The database, from Shell’s internal directory, contained names and telephone numbers for all the company’s work force worldwide, including some home numbers. It was supplied with a 170 page covering note, explaining that it was being circulated by “116 concerned employees of Shell dispersed throughout the USA, the UK, and the Netherlands”, to highlight the harm done by the company’s operations in Nigeria. John Donovan brought the leak to the attention of Shell. Tests proved that the data was authentic and he destroyed the database after being informed by Mr. Richard Wiseman, the then Chief Ethics & Compliance Officer of Royal Dutch Shell Plc, that the confidential information if publicly disclosed, could put Shell employees and contractors in real danger.

SHELL’S ROLE IN NIGERIAN OPL 245 BRIBERY SCANDAL
Whatever fig leaves they might be trying to use to hide the truth, Shell and Eni paid over $1bn to a company called Malabu for the OPL 245 licence. Even though the payment was channelled through the Nigerian government, it was clear that Shell knew that the ultimate beneficiary was Dan Etete, the former minister of petroleum. Etete is the owner of Malabu, to whom he awarded the licence when he was Nigerian Minister of Petroleum.
Royal Dutch Shell conspired directly with Hitler, financed the Nazi Party, was anti-Semitic and sold out its own Dutch Jewish employees to the Nazis. Shell had a close relationship with the Nazis during and after the reign of Sir Henri Deterding, an ardent Nazi, and the founder and decades long leader of the Royal Dutch Shell Group. His burial ceremony, which had all the trappings of a state funeral, was held at his private estate in Mecklenburg, Germany. The spectacle (photographs below) included a funeral procession led by a horse drawn funeral hearse with senior Nazis officials and senior Royal Dutch Shell directors in attendance, Nazi salutes at the graveside, swastika banners on display and wreaths and personal tributes from Adolf Hitler and Reichsmarschall, Hermann Goring. Deterding was an honored associate and supporter of Hitler and a personal friend of Goring.
Deterding was the guest of Hitler during a four day summit meeting at Berchtesgaden. Sir Henri and Hitler both had ambitions on Russian oil fields. Only an honored personal guest would be rewarded with a private four day meeting at Hitler’s mountain top retreat.

Shell appeased and collaborated with the Nazis. The oil giant instructed its employees in the Netherlands to complete a form giving particulars about their descent, which for some, amounted to a self-declared death warrant. Shell used slave labor and was a close business partner in Germany of I.G. Farben, the notorious Nazi run chemical giant that also used slave labor and supplied the Zyklon-B gas used during the Holocaust to exterminate millions of people, including children. Shell continued the partnership with the Nazis in the years after the retirement of Sir Henri and even after his death. It was money generated on Shell forecourts around the world, profiteering from cartel oil prices, that funded the Nazi party and saved it from financial collapse. Evidence about Shell's Nazi connections can be found in extracts from "A History of Royal Dutch Shell" Volumes 1 and 2 authored by historians paid by Shell, who had unrestricted access to Shell archives. Sir Henri Deterding, the founder of the Royal Dutch Shell Group - known as "The Most Powerful Man in the World" - who became an ardent Nazi and financial supporter of Hitler and the Nazi party.
Reading between the lines in various legal documents, it seems that the allegations are that after the technology in question had been disclosed to a Shell company in the USA, the information was passed to Shell in the Netherlands in breach of confidentiality. And Royal Dutch Shell subsequently exploited the technology without payment or credit to the company holding the rights; Newton Research Partners. The inference seems to be that Twister B.V. was founded by Shell partly on trade secrets stolen from Bloom/Newton.

My name is Bill Campbell. I am a former Group Auditor of Shell International. I am writing to you on a matter of conscience in an effort to avert the inevitability of another major accident in the North Sea. The consequences could potentially impact on families in many constituencies, including your own.
As Royal Dutch Shell and the Health & Safety Executive would acknowledge, I am an expert on safety matters relating to offshore oil and gas platforms. In 1999, I was appointed by Shell to lead a safety audit on the Brent Bravo platform. The audit revealed a platform management culture that basically gave a higher priority to production than the safety of Shell employees. To our astonishment we discovered that a "Touch F*** All" policy was in place. Worse still, safety records were routinely falsified and repairs bodged.
I personally brought the shocking situation to the attention of senior management including Malcolm Brinded, the then Managing Director of Shell Exploration & Production. I revealed that ESDV leak-off tests were purposely falsified, not once but many times and that Brent Bravo platform management had admitted responsibility for the dangerous practices being followed. In response to my team ringing alarm bells, management pledged to rectify the serious problems which had been uncovered.
When I later complained that the pledges were not being kept, I was removed from my oversight function.
Four years later, a massive gas leak occurred on the platform. Two workers lost their lives. I have no doubt at all that the inaction of the relevant Asset Manager, the General Manager, the Oil Director and Malcolm Brinded, contributed in some part to the unlawful killing of two persons on Brent Bravo in September 2003.
Shell subsequently pleaded guilty to breaches of the HSE regulations and a record-breaking £900,000 fine was imposed. I thought this would bring about a real change in policy to put the emphasis on safety.
Unfortunately I was wrong. Although I supplied the evidence related to 1999, and the fact that there had been a collapse in controls of integrity from 1999 to 2003 on all 16 of Shell's North Sea offshore installations covered in a post fatality integrity review to the HSE for review by the Procurator Fiscal, none of this evidence was presented before the Sheriff at the subsequent Inquiry. The situation is explained in a letter to the Procurator Fiscal and the Sheriff (on 24th February 2007).
Shell management has engaged in spin to try to pretend that it is getting to grips with its safety problem. However, its atrocious safety record - the worst in the North Sea in terms of accidental deaths and absolute number of enforcement actions – tells a different story. This fact has resulted in a number of newspaper articles.
I have had meetings with senior Shell people including its CEO Mr. Jeroen van der Veer. I regret to say that I have found him to be economical with the truth. He prefers to support cover-up and deceit rather than confronting the underlying problems. Brinded is now Executive Director of Shell Exploration & Production. He believes in burying evidence.
My family and friends would probably prefer me to give up on this matter and enjoy my retirement after so many years working for Shell.
However, by writing to every MP in the UK, no one can ever say that I did not do my best to avert an inevitable further major accident event in the North Sea. When it happens (I pray that I am wrong) I will make this warning communication available to the media together with the vast amount of evidence in my possession.
At least my conscience is clear. I have done everything possible to ring the alarm bells about Shell management and its unscrupulous attitude to the safety of its employees.

MORE DETAILS: After a solicitor acting for Shell threatened to make the litigation "drawn out and difficult" with the intention of draining the resources of a financially weaker opponent, my late father (Alfred Donovan) and I decided to mount a wide-ranging campaign as a counter-measure. We jointly founded the Shell Corporate Conscience Pressure Group, which nearly 15% of Shell UK retailers joined. We regularly conducted ethical surveys involving up to 1500 Shell petrol stations. All responses were opened and authenticated by an independent solicitor who supplied Affidavits confirming the results. In whole page announcements in trade magazines (examples above) we challenged Shell to commission and publish the resuits of independent research asking the same questions and offering respondents GUARANTEED anonymity. Shell never took up the invitation. Instead it asked the UK Advertising Standards Authority to investigate our Shell surveys. No problems were found. Shell management has ample funds to pay for intellectual property but prefers to steal it from small businesses and in our experience, gives its full backing to dishonest managers willing to do its bidding. We have sued Shell repeatedly in the High Court for the theft of our Intellectual Property. It is doubtful if anyone can match our dire experience in dealing with this ruthless unscrupulous serial poacher of other parties ideas. Expect threats, legal machinations and sinister action from Shell and its spooks if you object to having your ideas stolen.
Some years ago extensive documentary evidence was brought to the attention of Malcolm Brinded above, when he was Chairman of Shell UK, proving beyond any doubt that Shell executives had conspired to rig a tender for a major contract. A number of innocent firms were deliberately lured into signing confidentiality agreements and disclosing Intellectual Property to Shell under false pretences, in a carefully contrived plot. The firm which was awarded the contract never took part in the tender. One objective of the Machiavellian plan was to stop/delay IP trade secrets owned by the participants in the tender from being disclosed to Shell's rivals. This was achieved by outright deception, without paying a cent to the firms involved, who wrongly believed they were participating in an honest tender. Instead of sacking the ring leader, AJL - who had a personal relationship with the firm which miraculously won the race in which it never ran - Shell senior directors, including Brinded, gave AJL their full backing. Some of the Shell executives involved, including for example, Tim Hannagan, still hold high positions inside Shell - in his case, Global Brand and Visual Identity Manager. If Shell does not accept that this is a true, provable account of what happened, then it should sue for libel. How on earth is such predatory conduct compatible with Shell's claimed business principles?
