Royal Dutch Shell is once again inviting people to share their ideas with the oil giant. (see article below)
I caution anyone contemplating doing so to be on their guard.
In my experience Shell has no respect for confidentiality or intellectual property rights.
I have successfully sued Shell many times for breach of confidence and breach of contract in respect of ideas I disclosed to the company in strictest confidence and Shell then used without giving me any credit or payment.
I know many other people who have had the same problems in having their ideas ripped off by Shell.
Hence the warning.

Shell adopts new strategy to facilitate partnerships
KUALA LUMPUR: Shell is actively seeking to work with companies, organisations and universities in an effort to better facilitate use of modern fuels.
“We want to work with people who are interested in sharing their ideas and capabilities with us, and in turn, learn from us,†Royal Dutch Shell Projects and Technology director Matthias Bischel told reporters at the Shell Malaysia Innovation Summit 2013 yesterday.
Shell has partnered with Petronas Carigali and ConocoPhillips Ltd to develop Malaysia’s first deepwater projects, the Gumusut-Kakap semi-submersible production system and the Malikai floating production system, both offshore Sabah.
It has been learned that Gumusut, which is expected to operate in full swing by year-end, would have a processing capacity of 135,000 barrels of oil per day during peak oil production, and Malikai will involve 17 wells drilled from the 23,500-tonne tension-leg platform production facility.
Shell has also awarded contracts to Swiss-based Transocean Ltd for four of the latest generation in ultra deepwater drill ships.
The rigs, designed to operate up to 12,000 ft deep and drill wells down 40,000 ft, are standardised to reduce costs and schedule risk.
“Shell is consistently at the forefront of innovation and it is able to sustain innovation as it has the innovation mindset,†Petronas chairman Tan Sri Sidek Hassan said at the event.
Sidek also emphasised the importance of people recruitment and development in order to apply innovation consistently throughout the organisation.
“I am also very familiar with the collaboration between Shell and the Singapore Civil Service where the latter has adopted Shell’s practices.
“Why would an O&G company and the Singapore Civil Service work together? What’s the value? That’s innovation. Seeing value where others don’t,†Sidek said.
