Introduction to RIGZONE article by John Donovan
The RIGZONE article below mentions a Surface BOP system. We understand that this specialist system is currently the subject of legal proceedings against Shell in Houston for fraud and theft of intellectual property. A related criminal injunction has allegedly been obtained against Shell in Egypt.
If any of the Shell lawyers who monitor this site take issue with the accuracy of our reporting on this matter they are welcome to contact me to put the record straight. If we hear nothing, we will conclude that the information which comes from a reliable Shell insider source is correct.

RIGZONE: Nautronix Secures Major Order from Shell
Nautronix plc: Article Published Thursday, August 17, 2006
Aberdeen, UK-based Nautronix plc said that it has won a multi-million dollar purchase order from Shell for the supply of an enhanced capability NASBOP system to provide acoustic control and monitoring of a subsea location device within a surface BOP drilling package.
This will be the third NASBOP system Nautronix plc has delivered to Shell. Managing Director Mark Patterson said this latest contract was the oil giant’s seal of approval for Nautronix sophisticated technology.
He said: “We are delighted Shell have shown their commitment to utilizing Acoustic Digital Spread Spectrum, ADS2, technology and are pleased to be working closely with them to deliver an enhanced capability NASBOP system specific to their requirements. We are very excited about the future prospects for our wireless controls business as a result of this sale.”
Patterson said Nautronix collaboration with Shell’s engineering team in Houston to support Shell’s ongoing development of the SBOP concept highlights Shell’s faith in the strength, robustness and reliability of Nautronix ADS2 signaling for primary control and monitoring applications.
Over the past few years, Nautronix has invested over £10 million in research and development, which included the introduction of NASBOP to the market over four years ago. It was first used as an enabling technology for surface BOP operations where a reliable acoustic primary control system was essential. The operations were in Brazil and in Egypt onboard the Stena Tay drilling rig in water depths of 2,940m.
The enhanced NASBOP system takes full advantage of continuing advances in ADS2 technology offering additional signaling capability and functionality. A number of new significant features are available including new electronic architecture, lithium batteries and a new power management system providing subsea power control from the surface to support extended periods of deployment.
Nautronix plc will deliver the NASBOP system to Shell in the early part of 2007 for installation onboard Global Santa Fe’s Glomar Artic I for surface BOP drilling operations later that year in the BC-10 field in Brazil in 3,000 msw.
Nautronix is a marine technology solutions company who specialize in the development and applications engineering of advanced underwater acoustic communications and positioning technology for the offshore industry.

Royal Dutch Shell conspired directly with Hitler, financed the Nazi Party, was anti-Semitic and sold out its own Dutch Jewish employees to the Nazis. Shell had a close relationship with the Nazis during and after the reign of Sir Henri Deterding, an ardent Nazi, and the founder and decades long leader of the Royal Dutch Shell Group. His burial ceremony, which had all the trappings of a state funeral, was held at his private estate in Mecklenburg, Germany. The spectacle (photographs below) included a funeral procession led by a horse drawn funeral hearse with senior Nazis officials and senior Royal Dutch Shell directors in attendance, Nazi salutes at the graveside, swastika banners on display and wreaths and personal tributes from Adolf Hitler and Reichsmarschall, Hermann Goring. Deterding was an honored associate and supporter of Hitler and a personal friend of Goring.
Deterding was the guest of Hitler during a four day summit meeting at Berchtesgaden. Sir Henri and Hitler both had ambitions on Russian oil fields. Only an honored personal guest would be rewarded with a private four day meeting at Hitler’s mountain top retreat.
