DUBLIN, Sept 16 (Reuters) – Army bomb experts made safe a small explosive device outside the Dublin offices of the Irish unit of Royal Dutch Shell (RDSa.L:QuoteProfileResearchStock Buzz) late on Monday, Ireland’s Defence Forces said on Tuesday.

“The team made safe a viable device outside Corrib House,” the Defence Forces said in a statement. “The team carried out a controlled explosion on the simple, improvised explosive device,” it said.

Shell operates the Corrib Natural Gas Field off the north west coast of Ireland, which has drawn some protests including a hunger strike begun last week by a local teacher against the laying of a pipeline between the gas field and the mainland.

Officials at Shell in Ireland were not immediately available for comment. (Reporting by Andras Gergely, editing by Myra MacDonald)
