By Andrew Critchlow in Vienna: 04 Jun 2015

Britain should stay in Europe, the head of the UK’s largest publicly listed company Royal Dutch Shell has said as a growing number of business leaders express concerns ahead of a referendum on the issue in 2017.

Speaking on the sidelines of an energy conference in Vienna, Ben van Buerden, chief executive of Shell said: “I don’t think it will be a good idea for Britain to exit Europe.”

The boss of the Anglo-Dutch major with headquarters in London added: “I think it will be for the benefit of Europe and the UK and certainly for businesses like ourselves with very very strong legs in one and the other to see a continued engagement between the EU and Britain.” read more

Shell V-Power NiTRO+ ignites memories of past Shell wonder fuel debacles

Screen Shot 2015-04-13 at 16.04.38I remember the launch of another wonder fuel by Shell in 1986, “Formula Shell”, based on new technology and with a scientific image deliberately conjured up by Shell. There was only one small problem. The new wonder fuel ruined many car engines and it did so on an international basis.

COMMENT RECEIVED FROM A REGULAR CONTRIBUTOR… John, You have omitted to mention the details of the magic ingredient in “Formula Shell” that improved combustion and destroyed engines. It was nothing other than the chemical NaCl or Sodium Chloride, perhaps better known as common salt….

In a fanfare of pr, marketing, promotions and advertising hype, Shell has introduced another new wonder fuel in the USA.

This time round, the new fuel is called Shell V-Power NiTRO+.

THE HYPE

The major oil company said the fuel, which replaces its V-Power premium gasoline in the United States, is its “most technically advanced premium” fuel, formulated to protect engines from wear, corrosion and carbon-deposit buildup.

“New Shell V-Power Nitro+ Premium Gasoline isn’t just a breakthrough for Shell; it’s an industry breakthrough in fuels technology,” said Elen Phillips, vice president of Shell Americas fuels sales and marketing. read more

PARIS, JUNE 4 | BY OLEG VUKMANOVIC

Australia’s Woodside Petroleum is expanding its liquefied natural gas (LNG) business and aims to build a global supply network ahead of an expected surge in trading of the fuel, its chief executive said in an interview.

Peter Coleman said Woodside’s latest venture with U.S.-based Sempra, announced on Wednesday, to potentially build from scratch an LNG export plant in the United States at Port Arthur was the latest signal of its intention.

“What our strategy is: focus on Asia customers, but sourcing LNG globally,” and not just from the company’s existing Australian producing plants, he said on the sidelines of an industry conference in Paris. read more
