BG Group chief executive Helge Lund speaks exclusively to Andrew Critchlow about his plans to prepare the company for its mega takeover by Shell

When BG Group hired Helge Lund as the company’s new chief executive late last year it came at a high price.

Mr Lund – who had previously been head of the Norwegian state-oil giant Statoil – was handed a large remuneration package that, with bonuses, could be in the region of £25m. In return, he would take the top job at a company that appeared to be lurching from one crisis to another following the sudden departure of the previous chief, Chris Finlayson.

Under Mr Finlayson, who had been in the job for less than a year, BG had suffered a number of production issues and a profit warning just as the oil and gas industry was about to enter a deep downturn, with Brent crude prices plummeting to around $50 per barrel. read more

Firm to appeal decision on Port of Seattle permit

SEATTLE (AP) — Foss Maritime plans to appeal Seattle’s position that Royal Dutch Shell can’t use the Port of Seattle’s Terminal 5 under the existing permit.

The company says it intends to provide its customer, Shell, with the services it needs to prepare to explore for oil in Alaska.

Royal Dutch Shell has been planning to base its fleet at Terminal 5 for six months each year when it’s not exploring for oil in the Arctic. But Seattle Mayor Ed Murray threw a wrench into those plans on Monday when he said the port can’t host Shell’s offshore Arctic fleet until it gets a new land-use permit. read more

It can happen to any company. An employee commits fraud for the employee’s own personal gain, for the company’s benefit, or both. In this situation, a company has no other option but to start an internal investigation and impose disciplinary action.
