A MAN HAS died in what gardaà believe was an industrial accident at the Corrib gas tunnel in Aughoose near Ballina in Co Mayo this morning.
An investigation is underway into what is being treated as an accident after the man sustained head injuries while operating a tunnel boring machine in the gas tunnel operated by Shell.
The incident happenend at around 9.45am this morning. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
A garda spokesperson said officers at Belmullet Garda station are investigating the incident.
A spokesperson for the Health and Safety Authority said investigators are on their way to the scene.

Gardai have confirmed that they are investigating an industrial accident in Aughoose in which a man died this morning.
The accident happened at around 9.45am.
It’s understood the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
