Four held over Shell HQ bomb plot
Four people were arrested over a foiled bomb attack on energy giant Shell’s Irish headquarters.
The two men and two women were detained during a raid at a home in the Killester area of north Dublin. A suspect device found in the house was later declared a hoax by the Army bomb squad.
The four were being questioned by officers probing the planting of an improvised explosive at Shell’s offices on Leeson Street in September – the scene of dozens of protests over the controversial Corrib gas project. All four were being held under the state’s anti-terror laws at separate city centre garda stations.

Oil price fall checks enthusiasm for alternatives
The activity was driven by the high price of conventional energy, as oil repeatedly hit fresh price highs; concerns over energy security; and the need to tackle climate change. But such exuberance could not last. Renewable energy projects often have high capital costs, and the credit crunch has shut down many sources of financing. The plunging price of oil has also changed the economics of clean energy.
What lower oil prices mean for the world
The last time demand dropped this much was in 1981, on the eve of the recession that was until now known as the worst recession since the Great Depression.

The Government is smarting from the withdrawal of a number of key players from the industry in Britain, including Shell and BP.

Royal Dutch Shell conspired directly with Hitler, financed the Nazi Party, was anti-Semitic and sold out its own Dutch Jewish employees to the Nazis. Shell had a close relationship with the Nazis during and after the reign of Sir Henri Deterding, an ardent Nazi, and the founder and decades long leader of the Royal Dutch Shell Group. His burial ceremony, which had all the trappings of a state funeral, was held at his private estate in Mecklenburg, Germany. The spectacle (photographs below) included a funeral procession led by a horse drawn funeral hearse with senior Nazis officials and senior Royal Dutch Shell directors in attendance, Nazi salutes at the graveside, swastika banners on display and wreaths and personal tributes from Adolf Hitler and Reichsmarschall, Hermann Goring. Deterding was an honored associate and supporter of Hitler and a personal friend of Goring.
Deterding was the guest of Hitler during a four day summit meeting at Berchtesgaden. Sir Henri and Hitler both had ambitions on Russian oil fields. Only an honored personal guest would be rewarded with a private four day meeting at Hitler’s mountain top retreat.
