| The Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) has expressed its readiness to continue to encourage the full participation of host communities in project identification, planning, execution, maintenance and monitoring in its program of Sustainable Community Development (SCD).Community Relations Manager, SPDC, Mr. Don Ovberedjo,who gave the assurance in his address at the hand over of renovated three-classroom blocks and constructed toilets and a mini water project to Owholomu Primary School, Olomoro, Isoko South Local Government, Delta State, pointed out that three facilities which were part of their Community Development initiative were completed in June this year at the cost of over N5.6million.
According to him, the SPDC Joint Venture had in April this year handed over the Olomoro Civic Centre and a three-classroom block and expressed satisfaction over the way and manner the community had managed the projects. He said; SPDC Joint Ventures belief in dialogue and mutual trust as critical elements of our stakeholder relationship management process. While we will always strive to discharge our obligations to host communities, we would in turn implore them to adopt dialogue and non-violence in resolving any areas of disagreement. For our part, we will continue to listen to our stakeholders, and will always leave our doors open to any individual or group that have viable suggestion on how the relationship with our host communities can be improved. Ovberedjo maintained that the SPDC Joint Ventures Sustainable community Development (SDC) initiative, which provides the current framework for their community delivery. He held that one of the objectives of SDC program was the empowerment of the communities through collaborative development opportunities with special interest on developing the capacity of community people for self-employment. He disclosed that SPDC had implemented various projects under the initiatives, including micro credit schemes and skills acquisition programmes and said members of the Olomoro community have benefited from some of the programmes. Shell had a close relationship with the Nazis during and after the reign of Sir Henri Deterding, an ardent Nazi, and the founder and decades long leader of the Royal Dutch Shell Group. His burial ceremony, which had all the trappings of a state funeral, was held at his private estate in Mecklenburg, Germany. The spectacle (photographs below) included a funeral procession led by a horse drawn funeral hearse with senior Nazis officials and senior Royal Dutch Shell directors in attendance, Nazi salutes at the graveside, swastika banners on display and wreaths and personal tributes from Adolf Hitler and Reichsmarschall, Hermann Goring. Deterding was an honored associate and supporter of Hitler and a personal friend of Goring.
Deterding was the guest of Hitler during a four day summit meeting at Berchtesgaden. Sir Henri and Hitler both had ambitions on Russian oil fields. Only an honored personal guest would be rewarded with a private four day meeting at Hitler’s mountain top retreat.
