A public meeting was held in the Newpark Hotel, Kilkenny, on Wednesday July 19 at 8pm by the Shell To Sea campaign group. This group was started in Mayo by a group of residents concerned with the Shell company’s proposed Corrib gas project.
The Shell To Sea group is opposed to the planned Corrib gas project, as it plans to use previously untried and highly dangerous methods of extracting gas. This is obviously a huge concern for residents in the area, not only from a safety perspective but also because Shell will benefit from 100 per cent tax write-offs, there will be very little, if any, financial benefit for the Irish people.
The purpose of the meeting is to raise awareness of the situation and to look at setting up a Shell To Sea campaign group in the Kilkenny area.
Many people will already be aware of the situation that occurred in June of 2005 when five men from Rossport, Co Mayo, were jailed for the part they played in the campaign. Mícháel O’ Seighin, one of the men involved, will be guest speaker at the public meeting.
Local Green Party councillor Malcolm Noonan and local Sinn Féin representative Kathleen Funchion were both at the meeting lending their support to the Shell to Sea campaign.

Royal Dutch Shell conspired directly with Hitler, financed the Nazi Party, was anti-Semitic and sold out its own Dutch Jewish employees to the Nazis. Shell had a close relationship with the Nazis during and after the reign of Sir Henri Deterding, an ardent Nazi, and the founder and decades long leader of the Royal Dutch Shell Group. His burial ceremony, which had all the trappings of a state funeral, was held at his private estate in Mecklenburg, Germany. The spectacle (photographs below) included a funeral procession led by a horse drawn funeral hearse with senior Nazis officials and senior Royal Dutch Shell directors in attendance, Nazi salutes at the graveside, swastika banners on display and wreaths and personal tributes from Adolf Hitler and Reichsmarschall, Hermann Goring. Deterding was an honored associate and supporter of Hitler and a personal friend of Goring.
Deterding was the guest of Hitler during a four day summit meeting at Berchtesgaden. Sir Henri and Hitler both had ambitions on Russian oil fields. Only an honored personal guest would be rewarded with a private four day meeting at Hitler’s mountain top retreat.
