People in Erris, across the country, and internationally have been working flat out to ensure the Corrib gas project WILL NOT go ahead as planned. They refuse to be bullied by the might and arrogance of global corporate power and their political allies.
There is more evidence than ever that the planned gas pipeline and terminal will bring horrific environmental, health, safety, social, economic and political consequences. Far from being a local issue as elements of the media sometimes suggest, this is an issue of international significance and its ramifications will be felt the length and breath of Ireland for generations to come.
People from the Erris region of Mayo have been living with this nightmarish prospect day and night for several years now. They have been intimidated, threatened and even jailed for their refusal to be walked on. Throughout this ongoing ordeal these people continue to demonstrate strength, dignity and courage in the face of enormous adversity. In doing so they have inspired people from Ireland and abroad to reclaim the power that we hold as individuals, citizens and communities.
The growing hell to Sea ntwork represents a formidable and determined force for change that is growing in size and confidence by the day.
The determination and commitment for action is reflected in the dedication of the activists from the Rossport Solidarity Camp, which will soon celebrate one year of non-violent resistance. Camp representatives have spent the last year holding vigil in Mayo as well as touring universities and colleges in Ireland and the UK and attending grassroots conventions in Venezeula, Italy and beyond. They are now prepared for what is increasingly being seen as the final showdown in the coming weeks and months.
This is a case of the people versus Corporate/State power. The convergence of these two powerful forces is likely to be a turning point in the history of our nation. It is about our values, our resources, our rights, our culture and our natural heritage. It is about the right to live in a safe, peaceful and healthy environment.
It is imperative that all who believe in a world that values people before profit

Royal Dutch Shell conspired directly with Hitler, financed the Nazi Party, was anti-Semitic and sold out its own Dutch Jewish employees to the Nazis. Shell had a close relationship with the Nazis during and after the reign of Sir Henri Deterding, an ardent Nazi, and the founder and decades long leader of the Royal Dutch Shell Group. His burial ceremony, which had all the trappings of a state funeral, was held at his private estate in Mecklenburg, Germany. The spectacle (photographs below) included a funeral procession led by a horse drawn funeral hearse with senior Nazis officials and senior Royal Dutch Shell directors in attendance, Nazi salutes at the graveside, swastika banners on display and wreaths and personal tributes from Adolf Hitler and Reichsmarschall, Hermann Goring. Deterding was an honored associate and supporter of Hitler and a personal friend of Goring.
Deterding was the guest of Hitler during a four day summit meeting at Berchtesgaden. Sir Henri and Hitler both had ambitions on Russian oil fields. Only an honored personal guest would be rewarded with a private four day meeting at Hitler’s mountain top retreat.
