The Dutch King and Queen will head to the racetrack on day two of their Perth visit.
King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima will meet with trainers, owners and jockeys in the mounting yard, walk through the crowd and grandstand before watching the Melbourne Cup.
Fashion aficionados will be keen to see what the glamorous Argentinian-born Queen Maxima wears, given she is known for her chic sense of style.
On Monday, she stood out in a beige and green dress by Dutch designer Mattijs van Bergen with a matching fascinator, gloves and jewel-encrusted necklace.
Before the fun of Cup Day, the royal couple will tour the Australian headquarters of oil and gas giant Royal Dutch Shell.
The king and queen will be told about Shell’s Prelude gas project off WA’s northwest coast, which will feature what it calls the longest floating structure in the world, costing about $US12 billion.
They will also meet with Curtin University students.
The couple were warmly welcomed by crowds on Monday during a visit that marks the 400th anniversary of explorer Dirk Hartog’s landing in WA.
At the WA Maritime Museum they unveiled the Dirk Hartog plate, which is the oldest existing relic of European exploration in Australia and is on loan from the Amsterdam’s Rijksmuseum.
The pewter plate was left on Dirk Hartog Island in 1616 to mark the explorer’s landing with details of his voyage, more than 150 years before Captain James Cook and later the First Fleet landed on the east coast.

Royal Dutch Shell conspired directly with Hitler, financed the Nazi Party, was anti-Semitic and sold out its own Dutch Jewish employees to the Nazis. Shell had a close relationship with the Nazis during and after the reign of Sir Henri Deterding, an ardent Nazi, and the founder and decades long leader of the Royal Dutch Shell Group. His burial ceremony, which had all the trappings of a state funeral, was held at his private estate in Mecklenburg, Germany. The spectacle (photographs below) included a funeral procession led by a horse drawn funeral hearse with senior Nazis officials and senior Royal Dutch Shell directors in attendance, Nazi salutes at the graveside, swastika banners on display and wreaths and personal tributes from Adolf Hitler and Reichsmarschall, Hermann Goring. Deterding was an honored associate and supporter of Hitler and a personal friend of Goring.
Deterding was the guest of Hitler during a four day summit meeting at Berchtesgaden. Sir Henri and Hitler both had ambitions on Russian oil fields. Only an honored personal guest would be rewarded with a private four day meeting at Hitler’s mountain top retreat.
