Shell’s predatory appetite for intellectual property

Shell is notorious for its predatory appetite for the intellectual property of other organizations, its business partners, contractors, etc. Industrial espionage is a way of life at Shell.

COMMENT BY A FORMER SHELL OIL COMPANY ENGINEER

Another alleged case of IP theft hits Royal Dutch Shell

I have a short comment about the company you clearly enjoy tormenting.

Over the years RDS managers (not all, but a large percentage) have made it abundantly clear what type of people they are.

For years Shell senior management lied to the company’s shareholders, investors, regulators, etc., about their reserve balance sheet. That legacy of misconduct through the ranks of Shell management over a period of decades culminated in the 2004 reserves scandal.

For decades Shell has lied to the Nigerians, the press, and the public, et al, about the nature of their activities in Nigeria, all while they shamelessly looted that country of its oil wealth. It should come as no surprise that the Nigerians really don’t know how much oil has been produced and shipped out of the country.

Shell is notorious for its predatory appetite for the intellectual property of other organizations, its business partners, contractors, etc. Industrial espionage is a way of life at Shell. Shell management has apparently even targeted the US defense establishment.

The list of nefarious activities on the part of Shell is long and varied. However, one thing should be abundantly clear. A company engaged in these sorts of activities as a matter of ‘standard operating procedure’, as Shell seems to be, is a company that is managed by liars, thieves and cheats, and at the highest levels. That is the character of Shell leadership and management, and it is the image Shell is projecting publicly.

This is indeed a sad legacy because Shell also clearly employs many dedicated, honest, hardworking and loyal employees that do not deserve this kind of betrayal.

COMMENT BY JOHN DONOVAN

I have published the forthright allegations by a former employee of Shell Oil Company (who has personal experience of alleged IP theft by Shell) based on our own past experience of dealing with the company. That includes its involvement in dirty tricks and industrial espionage against its perceived enemies, including Greenpeace, Nigerian activists and the Donovans.
