HOUSTON (Dow Jones)–Royal Dutch Shell (RDSA, RDSA.LN) is confident it will be able to drill for oil and natural gas in Alaska’s arctic region this summer as it hopes to overcome its remaining legal challenges.
“We still have a few not insignificant hurdles to get past, but it looks that we will be drilling,” Marvin Odum, president of Shell Oil Co., the U.S. unit of the Anglo-Dutch giant, said in prepared remarks delivered at a conference in Houston.

BEIJING -(MarketWatch)- The Changbei natural gas project owned by PetroChina Co. PTR +0.27% and Royal Dutch Shell PLC in northern China produced a record 3.5 billion cubic meters in 2011, the official Xinhua news agency reported late Wednesday.
The facility’s gas output was up slightly from 2010, when 3.48 billion cubic meters were produced.
The joint venture, located in Shaanxi province, has produced a total of 18.33 billion cubic meters since it began operations in 2005, Xinhua said, citing Tang Jiaqing, an official with the Changqing oil field, which operates the Changbei field.

The Kazakh government is considering a request from Exxon Mobil Corp., Royal Dutch Shell Plc (RDSA) and other partners to raise the budget for the first phase of the Kashagan oil project by 20 percent to $46 billion, according to a person with knowledge of the matter.
The international oil companies, which include Eni SpA (ENI) and Total SA (FP), will bear the extra cost themselves, the person said, declining to be identified as the information isnt public. Kazakhstans state energy company, which also has a stake, will reimburse them with barrels of oil for its share once output starts, he said.

The company has said it will decide early this year where to build the plant from among sites in Pennsylvania, Ohio and West Virginia, and those states’ officials have lobbied Shell or offered incentives for what could be a massive investment that rivals the region’s largest industrial plants.

Royal Dutch Shell conspired directly with Hitler, financed the Nazi Party, was anti-Semitic and sold out its own Dutch Jewish employees to the Nazis. Shell had a close relationship with the Nazis during and after the reign of Sir Henri Deterding, an ardent Nazi, and the founder and decades long leader of the Royal Dutch Shell Group. His burial ceremony, which had all the trappings of a state funeral, was held at his private estate in Mecklenburg, Germany. The spectacle (photographs below) included a funeral procession led by a horse drawn funeral hearse with senior Nazis officials and senior Royal Dutch Shell directors in attendance, Nazi salutes at the graveside, swastika banners on display and wreaths and personal tributes from Adolf Hitler and Reichsmarschall, Hermann Goring. Deterding was an honored associate and supporter of Hitler and a personal friend of Goring.
Deterding was the guest of Hitler during a four day summit meeting at Berchtesgaden. Sir Henri and Hitler both had ambitions on Russian oil fields. Only an honored personal guest would be rewarded with a private four day meeting at Hitler’s mountain top retreat.

MORE DETAILS: After a solicitor acting for Shell threatened to make the litigation "drawn out and difficult" with the intention of draining the resources of a financially weaker opponent, my late father (Alfred Donovan) and I decided to mount a wide-ranging campaign as a counter-measure. We jointly founded the Shell Corporate Conscience Pressure Group, which nearly 15% of Shell UK retailers joined. We regularly conducted ethical surveys involving up to 1500 Shell petrol stations. All responses were opened and authenticated by an independent solicitor who supplied Affidavits confirming the results. In whole page announcements in trade magazines (examples above) we challenged Shell to commission and publish the resuits of independent research asking the same questions and offering respondents GUARANTEED anonymity. Shell never took up the invitation. Instead it asked the UK Advertising Standards Authority to investigate our Shell surveys. No problems were found.
