Shell completes transition of HR application services to Accenture

By Anh Nguyen January 5, 2012 03:11 AM ET

Computerworld UK – Energy company Shell has completed a move to outsource all of its SAP-based HR and payroll application management services to Accenture.

Shell signed the multi-year deal in July 2011, to cover the areas of employee administration, self-service, environmental health and payroll.

The deal raises the question as to why the company chose to outsource the application management services, over going down the Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) route. This may be explained by the existing relationship Shell has with Accenture, having worked with the consultancy in other parts of the business over the last 15 years. read more

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — There were 11 earthquakes in eastern Ohio in 2011.

Most of them were not very powerful and caused little damage, but some people are asking about emergency plans if a major quake hits the area.

The new phenomenon of earthquakes in eastern Ohio is puzzling many people.

Some geologists say that discarded brine used while drilling for natural gas is being injected near fault lines. It acts as a lubricant, inducing the earthquakes.

Emergency management officials in and near Youngstown say they have a general plan that covers any and all emergencies. read more

Shell foes will never accept Arctic drilling

COMPASS: Other points of view

By PETE SLAIBY Published: January 4th, 2012

Pete Slaiby is vice president for Shell Alaska.

In her recent opinion piece (Jan. 2), Wilderness Society Arctic Program Director Lois Epstein assumes that neither Alaskans, the nation nor Shell are “ready to drill safely in the Arctic.” Ms. Epstein then dismisses decades of data that indicate otherwise and claims drilling in the Arctic would lead to a “reasonable likelihood of disaster.” The fact is, Shell and others have successfully drilled more than 35 wells in the Alaska offshore without incident — not counting the Cook Inlet wells that have helped heat Anchorage homes for over 50 years. read more
