Shell To Sea Press Release – 6th May 09 – Removal of fences at Glengad
Saturday 9th May at 6pm will see Shells illegal fences at Glengad removed by the local community. Shell have been building their compound, which has not been passed through the planning process by Mayo County Council [1], for almost two weeks. There have been numerous protests, and the local community are now calling for help from around the country in safeguarding their homes and livelihoods, and in fighting the giveaway of Irelands natural resources.
Recent weeks have seen a increasing amount peaceful protest, and a ramping-up of intimidation from Shell mercenaries, most notably in the brutal assault on Willie Corduff. Local anger was only exacerbated by the negative response of Ministers Ryan and O Cuiv to concerns raised during a community meeting in Inver Community Hall last Thursday.
The founder of the Goldman Environmental Prize has also spoken out against the recent events in Mayo, and 26 recent Goldman winners have written a letter to the Taoiseach, the President and the Prime Minister of Norway, calling for intervention in what is becoming a humanitarian crisis [2]. The OECD are also currently investigating a complaint from the community regarding the disputed Corrib Gas Project [3].
Shell to Sea spokesperson Terence Conway said, We have had enough of being bullied by Shell and Statoil’s illegal security, and their helpers the Gardai, over this illegal compound and this ridiculous selling-out of our natural resources.
Shell to Sea spokesperson Maura Harrington added, This struggle is for all of the people of Ireland. We are strong, and are fighting Shell all the way, but we need help from all over the country to win back the resources that belong to all of us.

3. The OECD, the Organisation for Economic Co-Operation and Development, hosted talks in Dublin last Monday to try to resolve issues relating to the Corrib gas dispute.

The spectacle (photographs below) included a funeral procession led by a horse drawn funeral hearse with senior Nazis officials and senior Royal Dutch Shell directors in attendance, Nazi salutes at the graveside, swastika banners on display and wreaths and personal tributes from Adolf Hitler and Reichsmarschall, Hermann Goring. Deterding was an honored associate and supporter of Hitler and a personal friend of Goring.
Deterding was the guest of Hitler during a four day summit meeting at Berchtesgaden. Sir Henri and Hitler both had ambitions on Russian oil fields. Only an honored personal guest would be rewarded with a private four day meeting at Hitler’s mountain top retreat.
