Nov. 17 (Bloomberg) — Nigerian police rescued an employee of Royal Dutch Shell Plc hours after he was abducted by unidentified gunmen, a military spokesman said.
Fidelis Egberido was seized yesterday morning at Port Harcourt, the main base for companies operating in the oil-rich Niger Delta, Sagir Musa, a spokesman for the military task force in charge of security in the region, said by phone today. Egberido was taken after three gunmen burst into the home of a relative he was visiting, Musa said.
“The armed men announced to all in the house that they were militants who needed money to buy arms and ammunition and demanded a ransom of 7 million naira ($59,397) before they will free their victim,” Musa said.
Egberido was later rescued by a police patrol at Nchia- Eleme, about 15 kilometers (9 miles) east of Port Harcourt late yesterday, Musa said.
Attacks by armed groups in the Niger Delta, Nigeria’s main oil-producing region, have cut more than 20 percent of the country’s crude exports since 2006. The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta, the main militant group in the region, announced a cease-fire last month.
Precious Okolobo, a spokesman for Shell, confirmed that a member of staff had been rescued by the police. He wouldn’t provide further details.

Royal Dutch Shell conspired directly with Hitler, financed the Nazi Party, was anti-Semitic and sold out its own Dutch Jewish employees to the Nazis. Shell had a close relationship with the Nazis during and after the reign of Sir Henri Deterding, an ardent Nazi, and the founder and decades long leader of the Royal Dutch Shell Group. His burial ceremony, which had all the trappings of a state funeral, was held at his private estate in Mecklenburg, Germany. The spectacle (photographs below) included a funeral procession led by a horse drawn funeral hearse with senior Nazis officials and senior Royal Dutch Shell directors in attendance, Nazi salutes at the graveside, swastika banners on display and wreaths and personal tributes from Adolf Hitler and Reichsmarschall, Hermann Goring. Deterding was an honored associate and supporter of Hitler and a personal friend of Goring.
Deterding was the guest of Hitler during a four day summit meeting at Berchtesgaden. Sir Henri and Hitler both had ambitions on Russian oil fields. Only an honored personal guest would be rewarded with a private four day meeting at Hitler’s mountain top retreat.
