Royal Dutch Shell Plc .com: Shell seeks face-to-face talks to resolve Rossport 5 dispute

From The Irish Independent

Shell Oil is seeking face-to-face talks with the Rossport 5, after government backed attempts to broker a deal failed.

It emerged today that mediator Peter Cassells has been unable to find any agreement between the two sides over the disputed Corrib Gas pipeline.

Shell’s Deputy Managing Director Terry Nolan, said alternative pipeline routes could be discussed:

“We’ve made it clear that we’ve discuss all the options in face to face dialogue with the individuals, and for example the alternative pipeline route is something which we would be happy to consider that was made clear to the mediators,” he said.

However, a spokesperson for the Rossport 5 rejected the offer of talks.

Dr Mark Garvan accused Shell of not engaging with Peter Cassells’ mediation attempts:

“The issue of face-to-face talks is simply a nonsense,” he said.

“Face-to-face talking should only take place when there is an agreed agenda and an obvious willingness on both sides to engage meaningfully.

“In the context of the mediation process my understanding is clear that Shell would not bring forward any tangible proposals whatsoever for the amendment of this project.”
