Shell and Cyber Security: Victim or Sinner?

Screen Shot 2015-02-11 at 12.57.36

What Shell has not disclosed is that Shell internal spooks have spied on Shell employees via Shell servers all around the world, tracking both internal and external communications, as part of a top secret espionage project. I have irrefutable Shell internal evidence to prove it.

By John Donovan

Cybersecurity has become a major problem with highly embarrassing security breaches at many businesses such as Home Depot, Target and Sony Pictures. Royal Dutch Shell (Global Employee Data Breach) was one of the first victims.

Yesterday, the White House announced the formation of a new federal agency “to analyse threats to the nation’s cybersecurity and coordinate strategy to combat them.”

The Obama administration is launching the Cyber Threat Intelligence Integration Center as a central place to coordinate cyber threat intelligence from the FBI, the National Security Agency, the Department of Homeland Security and other federal agencies. The center will operate under the guidance of the director of national intelligence and will work with the private sector since many cyber attacks are directed at businesses. read more

Scandal hit bosses of HSBC and Shell are both ordained priests!

I wonder if Paddy was thinking of Shell when he published this on this Facebook page?

The grotesquely high “compensation packages” of the Directors of the likes of HSBC as well as being morally repugnant are also bad for business. The rewards for making it to the top are so obscene that ladder climbers will do anything to make it. So every decision they take is driven by their own ambition and their need to kowtow to those who might appoint them to these golden jobs. This is a brake on creativity and innovation and on long-term thinking. read more

Pieter Schelte ship name change to Pioneering Spirit fraught with superstitious pitfalls

Screen Shot 2015-02-09 at 15.20.49By John Donovan

Following the decision announced on 9 February 2015 that Allseas is changing the name of The Pieter Schelte to the Pioneering Spirit, Ton Biesemaat, the Dutch investigative journalist, posted the following comment on our Shell Blog, which I assume is partly tongue in cheek:

Every seaman knows that changing a ship’s name brings bad luck. Especially if you do not purge all the references to the former name. Not even Pieter Schelte can stay on any documents. However Allseas with their admiration for the Nazi Pieter Schelte Heerema has chosen to rename their Nazi ship into Pioneering Spirit. Which is still a reference to the evil SS-man and even retains the P and S of Pieter Schelte. No sane minded seaman will take the risk to sail on this ship. Evil reigns there. Beware of the bad spirits! read more

Allseas Abandons Ship name

By John Donovan

Associated Press has confirmed that after protests, the Allseas Dutch-Swiss maritime engineering company said Friday it will change the name of a giant ship that had been christened after a convicted Nazi.

Allseas Group said that due to the “widespread reactions” Edward Heerema has announced that the name of the vessel will be changed.

“It has never been the intention to offend anyone,” the company said in a statement.

Earlier Friday, the company said it had no plans to change the name. The new name was not immediately announced. read more

PURE BS: SHELL THE MOST RIGOROUSLY POLICED BRAND IN THE WORLD

“Shell lifts the lid on new digital strategy”

Radley Yeldar  has redesigned Shell’s website, which will act as a hub for all corporate and consumer activity.

Radley Yeldar digital director Richard Coope says this extended to 74 different websites, in the region of 68 social networks and accounts and 18 mobile apps. In total they found were 27,000 pages of content.

His team has worked with the Shell brand and visual identity teams to make Shell’s branding “more in tune with a digital environment”. It is, he says, “the most rigorously policed and well understood brand in the world.” read more

UK Unions intent on sinking Shell’s Nazi ship, The Pieter Schelte

Scottish TV news is reporting that the UK National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers, and its sister unions, are outraged by the fact that Shell has awarded the Brent oilfield decommissioning contract to a ship with a Nazi name, The Pieter Schelte.

The unions intend to take coordinated action to stop the continued use of the scandalous Nazi linked name on the high seas.

Numerous articles have been published today as a result of a PR campaign by Shell in which it ironically claims to have learnt the lessons from the Brent Spar debacle. The STV story is the first to mention the Nazi name controversy. read more

That seemed unlikely since Shell Midstream Partners rang the closing bell at the NYSE on Friday 16 Jan 2015 for that same purpose.

KIERON McFADYEN: Bad boy made good

By John Donovan

A number of people have contacted me about an article by Andrew Kellock published by the Aberdeen Press & Journal a few days ago under the headline:

Oil boss buys luxury mansion for bargain £1.85million (£1.65m LESS than the asking price!)

The “oil boss” is Kieron McFadyen, Royal Dutch Shell Plc executive vice-president of health, safety and the environment.

The “bad boy made good” phrase comes from an article published about him in September 2006, when Mr McFadyen admitted that at the time he left school, he was a complete waster.

From the comments I have received in the last few days, it is fair to say that he has his fans and his detractors. (For comments about Mr McFadyen see foot of article) read more

Threats yes, but no writ.

Leaders of Jewish communities and Holocaust memorial groups in Britain and the Netherlands have reacted with rage and despair at the arrival in Rotterdam of the world’s biggest ship, the Pieter Schelte, named after a Dutch officer in the Waffen-SS.

The vice-president of the Board of Deputies of British Jews, Jonathan Arkush, said: “Naming such a ship after an SS officer who was convicted of war crimes is an insult to the millions who suffered and died at the hands of the Nazis. The Dutch owner of offshore company Allseas in Delft is increasingly criticized for the naming of its newest vessel. Edward Heerema named the largest floating crane in the world after his father Pieter Schelte who was an officer in World War II in the German Waffen SS before he made his name as an offshore pioneer.

The Guardian

The Guardian Saturday citing various Jewish organizations complained about this tribute. The vessel with a size of eight football pitches and a cost of € 2.4 billion was early this month the subject of a ceremony on its arrival in the port of Rotterdam. In the backwater of Maasvlakte Pieter Schelte is being assembled in the coming months. After that lights the vessel obsolete oil platforms in the North Sea from their pedestal and drains. read more

Shell stokes up its fire sale

Screen Shot 2014-06-23 at 11.37.41Introduction by John Donovan

Bloomberg is reporting that Shell has agreed to sell its stake in the Bijupira and Salema fields in Brazil. This development is no doubt in response to the collapse in oil prices and is stoking up the fire sale instituted by CEO Ben van Beurden when Shell announced a profits warning a year ago.

Extract from Bloomberg article

Royal Dutch Shell Plc (RDSA), the second-largest oil operator in Brazil, is selling a stake in one of its oil-producing projects in the country to HRT Participacoes em Petroleo SA (HRTP3), two people with knowledge of the matter said.

HRT, based in Rio de Janeiro, agreed to buy Shell’s 80 percent stake in the Bijupira and Salema fields, an offshore venture that started production in 2003, the people said, asking not to be identified because the deal hasn’t been made public. HRT will boost production to more than 30,000 barrels a day with the purchase, one of the people said. read more

Oil Price Bust Foreseen: Is Jesse Colombo a bone fide time traveler?

Screen Shot 2014-12-29 at 14.53.02

“Time travel has captured the public imagination for much of the past century, but little has been done to actually search for time travelers. Here, three implementations of Internet searches for time travelers are described, all seeking a prescient mention of information not previously available.”

Perhaps Shell or BP may decide to hire Mr. Colombo and ask him about the timing of a mega merger, bearing in mind that he seems to know more about the oil industry than them?

By John Donovan

A few days ago I published an article about Jesse Colombo, the economic analyst who correctly and uniquely, predicted the oil prices bust, which has an impact on every individual and country on the planet.

The collapse in oil prices might not be as highly ranked as the 9/11 terror attack in terms of an historic event, but it is of world-changing significance.

I found the Jesse Colombo article from June 2014 containing his prescient prediction published on the Forbes.com website.

This was in the course of carrying out some research into why the predictions of one of the worlds biggest oil companies, Royal Dutch Shell, has been so wildly inaccurate in regard to oil issues, such as when peak oil will occur. Shell has a “scenarios” team tasked with peering into the future with the objective of coming up with accurate forecasts. I wonder if they have foreseen their own future, which might be short as far as Shell is concerned? read more

In June of this year Forbes.com published an extensive prescient article by Jesse Colombo, an economic analyst, under the headline:

“9 Reasons Why Oil Prices May Be Headed For A Bust”

His prediction made 6 months ago:

“There are a growing number of reasons, however, why crude oil prices are likely to finally experience a bust in the not-too-distant future.”

Jesse Colombo correctly predicted an event of huge significance. Ask Putin or Shell’s Ben van Beurden.

Some further extracts from his brilliant article, which deserves reading in full.

While extreme aggregate trading positions can persist for quite a while, as is the case in the crude oil market for the past few years, they are still a reliable indication that a powerful market reversal is likely to occur when the proper catalyst eventually appears and sends speculators heading for the exits. So far, no bearish catalyst has presented itself in the crude oil market, but the other points that I’ve listed in this piece may combine to form a perfect storm that finally causes the oil market to crack. read more

Big Oil’s $3 Billion Homage to Nazi War Criminal

Ships don’t come bigger than the Pieter Schelte. They don’t come more controversial either. Built in Korea at a cost of nearly $3 billion, the gargantuan new ship is now sailing towards the Netherlands, where it will soon enter service in the European offshore oil industry.

A huge catamaran, it weighs 932,000 tons, a world record, and nearly 18 times the Titanic. It will lift offshore oil rigs weighing up to 48,000 tons, again a world record. So much for the technicalities – but there is, ahem, a slight political problem: the ship’s name. read more

Will 2015 Be The Year Of The Mega-Merger?

He covers much of the same well-trodden ground in relation to Shell BP as in a flurry of recent articles by excited journalists, before concluding that a merger is unlikely, but not beyond the bounds of possibility.

Overall, then, there could be too many risks, uncertainties and hurdles to jump over for a deal between Shell and BP to go ahead. That being said, if the price is right, I’m sure Shell’s management would figure out a way to make the deal work so I wouldn’t rule out a deal completely. read more

Yesterday, Reuters published an article about the legal repercussions in the USA from the landmark decision in 2013 by the U.S. Supreme Court in the famed Kiobel v. Royal Dutch Petroleum co case.

Access is provided here to the 35 page judgement issued by the Supreme Court of the United States on April 17, 2013

Esther Kiobel is a regular visitor to this website and says that her husband Barinem Kiobel was executed by the Nigerian regime with the backing of Shell, which she has correctly described as an evil corporation. read more

Donovan Verdict on Shell/Noble Arctic Crimes

Screen Shot 2014-05-28 at 00.53.01By John Donovan

People who are as familiar with Shell as I am, will know that Noble Drilling has stepped forward on commercial grounds to take the blame for the reckless screw-up that was actually directed by Shell, partly to evade tax.

This was why Lawrence of Alaska (David Lawrence, the Shell VP supposedly responsible for Shell’s Arctic shambles) was fired at the time. He was himself a fall guy for his boss, Marvin Odum, the President of Shell Oil Company.

Noble Drilling obviously wants to keep Shell as a client and has therefore been willing to soak up the  criminal record, with attendant reputational fallout and multimillion dollar fines. read more

Update on OSSL Shell Scandal

Screen Shot 2014-12-04 at 23.00.33By John Donovan

At the weekend I published an article under the headline: “Irish Police reopen and expand investigation into Shell corruption case?”

A question mark was placed at the end of the headline to denote a degree of uncertainty.

This is my take on the actual situation according to information I have received today.

After pointing out that a recent Garda Ombudsman Commission (GSOC) investigation found no evidence of the alcohol supplied to Garda officers by OSSL on behalf of Shell and stating that the matter is closed, the Irish Justice Minister, Frances Fitzgerald, grudgingly invited OSSL to contact the GSOC with any evidence to support various related allegations. read more

Oil price slump could trigger a wave of takeovers and mergers of desperation

Screen Shot 2014-10-28 at 12.29.57The author of The Sunday Times article, Danny Fortson, goes on to point out that the oil price slump could lead to a wave of big takeovers, failures and “mergers of desperation,” with BP a potential takeover target…

By John Donovan

Coverage of the problems facing BP are spread over a number of pages of The Sunday Times Business section today.

Screen Shot 2014-12-08 at 16.07.22BP is responding to the fall in oil prices by slashing middle management and freezing projects that were based on an assumption that oil prices would remain at around $100 a barrel. Shell is likely to do the same.

The most prominent article, by Danny Fortson, describes BP’s involvement with the Putin regime as playing Russian roulette. He goes on to point out that the oil price slump could lead to a wave of big takeovers, failures and “mergers of desperation,” with BP a potential takeover target (also as a consequence of the Gulf spill). read more

SHELL DEFAMATION CASE HAS PROFOUND IMPLICATIONS

Screen Shot 2014-10-30 at 09.22.43

In 2009, Shell Oil Co. was facing allegations of international bribery in Nigeria. It told federal prosecutors that one of its employees approved and facilitated the bribes and then lied about his role to company lawyers. In 2010, the case took an unexpected turn. The employee, senior petroleum engineer Robert Writt, sued for defamation. He claimed that the energy giant’s allegations were lies that slandered his good reputation.

By John Donovan

Shell has attracted a huge amount of unwelcome attention to its company culture of  corruption as a result of making defamatory comments about a former employee, Robert Writt. Basically it ruthlessly tried to make him a  scapegoat.

Mr Writt contacted my late father, Alfred Donovan, in August 2009. Many people, including former Shell employees mistreated by Shell, make contact with us.

Shell destroyed his reputation in an attempt to cover-up the truth and minimise financial consequences to Shell. A penalty imposed on Shell was cut by half, from $60 million to $30 million. read more

Irish Police reopen and expand investigation into Shell corruption case?

Screen Shot 2014-12-04 at 23.00.33By John Donovan

According to an insider source, the Irish Police Garda Ombudsman Commission has reopened and expanded an investigation into evidence of corruption surrounding the Corrib Gas Project in Ireland.

I understand that this development was prompted by new evidence published on this website in relation to the whistleblower Irish company OSSL. Its directors have admitted distributing bribes on behalf of the Shell led project consortium.

This apparent development seems to be at odds with a statement issued by the Irish Justice Minister Frances Fitzgerald, in the Irish Parliament on 4 December 2014.

OSSL strenuously denies allegations that it has attempted to blackmail Shell and its project partners, Statoil and Vermilion. Shell has provided written proof that it has received hundreds of money demands from OSSL for the alcohol. read more

Shell Rethinks $90M Toxic Contamination Settlement Over Secrecy Issues

Just days ago, we re-published an article from The Daily Breeze about Shell’s $90 million settlement with nearly 1500 residents of Carson, California, arising from a contamination class action lawsuit stemming from a former Shell oil tank farm.

A housing development was built over the remains of the buried tank farm in the 1960s.

Widespread petroleum contamination was subsequently discovered beneath hundreds of the homes in 2008 and residents sought compensation for decades of poor health and declining home values due to the contamination. They claimed they and their pets had been made seriously ill with ailments such as cancer, blood disorders and many other conditions. read more

Wanted: Shell Senior Legal Counsel to evade Anti Bribery and Corruption laws?

Screen Shot 2014-10-30 at 09.22.43Unfortunately it is unclear if the lucky applicant is expected to advise Shell employees on how to avoid falling foul of bribery and corruption laws, or how to get round them. I suppose its a fine distinction.

By John Donovan

Just spotted an advert for the job of Senior Legal Counsel for Anti Bribery and Corruption at Royal Dutch Shell Group.

Apparently part of the job function is to provide specialist advice in connection with the Shell Anti-Corruption Manual, which probably has the same standing within the company as the outdated Shell Business Principles – just a theatrical prop designed to conjure up an illusion of honesty.

Key role of Shell lawyers in pioneering Shell Prelude FLNG

Screen Shot 2014-11-26 at 19.03.18

PRELUDE DESIGNED BY SHELL LAWYERS? MORE IMPORTANT ROLE THAN ENGINEERS?

What will Bill Campbell make of the boasts from Shell’s chief lawyer Donny Ching, about the pivotal role of Shell in-house lawyers in the world’s first floating liquefied natural gas (LNG) facility, Prelude FLNG?

Extracts from an article about Donny Ching published by The Law Society Gazette on 5 December 2014:

Ching also believes that external law firms would have been no substitute for in-house lawyers in the work they did to build the world’s first floating liquefied natural gas (LNG) facility, Prelude FLNG. read more

Shell’s Unloved Business Principles

I have published a number of articles highlighting the fact that Shell appears to have no regard at all for its own claimed business principles displayed on the Internet, which have not been signed/endorsed by the current CEO Ben van Beurden.

Shell’s disdain for its governing constitution, Shell Business Principles

CEO Ben van Beurden too honest to sign Shell’s Business Principles?

Someone has correctly pointed out that if you visit shell.com on the shell global  webpage, it is possible to download the Shell General Business Principles “in your own language.” If you select “English,”  the version that appears was signed by Jeroen van der Veer, the CEO in 2005, now long retired from Royal Dutch Shell Plc.  read more

IRISH GOVERNMENT RESPONSE ON OSSL/SHELL SCANDAL

Danger to Shell from Class Action Lawsuits Arising from Bribery

Screen Shot 2014-12-04 at 23.00.33By John Donovan

Two articles have just been published about bribery that have relevance to Shell and its shareholders.

An article by The Economist under the headline “Graft work” makes the point that “The most briberiddled sectors are oil, gas, mining, construction and transport.”

Extract

GONE are the days when multinationals could book bribes paid in far-flung countries as a tax-deductible expense. These days would-be palm-greasers have to contend with ever-tougher enforcement of old laws, such as America’s Foreign Corrupt Practices Act of 1977, and a raft of new ones in countries from Britain to Brazil.

The other article worth reading is also in relation to the U.S. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. Published by the Legal Newsline, it reports on the filing of a class action lawsuit alleging that an oil company – Cobalt International Energy – has violated United States federal law by engaging in bribery with foreign officials. read more

Swiss Role in Aggressive Tax Avoidance by Royal Dutch Shell

The lead article in The Sunday Times Business section today (authored by Simon Duke and David Smith) says that Britain is at the forefront of a crackdown on corporate tax avoidance – a blitz on tax avoidance by multinationals.

The UK Treasury  is planning a consultation on forcing multinationals like Royal Dutch Shell to declare how much tax they pay in every country in which they operate.

It is a year since Peter Voser left his job as Chief Executive of Royal Dutch Shell Plc to allegedly spend more time with his family. Soon after his surprise early exit, Shell announced a profits warning.

Leaving that contentious issue to one side, I am puzzled that his replacement Ben van Beurden has still not put his name and signature  to the Shell General Business Principles document.

As can be seen, as of todays date, it is still displayed on shell.com signed by Peter Voser in his capacity as Royal Dutch Shell Chief Executive Officer. read more

Shell CEO Ben van Beurden audience with corrupt despot, the Sultan of Brunei

By John Donovan

Royal Dutch Shell Chief Executive Ben van Beurden had “an audience” on Tuesday with the head of the corrupt, seedy Brunei Royal Family, the Sultan of Brunei, who once accepted a $500,000 wedding gift (bribe) from Royal Dutch Shell.

In April he went ahead, despite international opposition, with his plans to introduce a tough Islamic penal code that under Sharia law will include amputations.

Shell has always been willing to deal with dictators including Adolf Hitler, Muammar Gaddafi and General Sani Abacha. Profits first, ethics last. Shell remains willing to deal with the devil. read more

Shell Lied to Dutch Court About Oil Spills in Nigeria

Screen Shot 2014-11-26 at 18.50.09The significance of the Newsweek article is therefore threefold: firstly Shell appears to have misled the court in the Hague which from a reputational perspective is extremely damaging (hence the headline of the article), secondly the case will now return to court for a retrial, and thirdly the lawyers and witnesses in the original case may be subject to legal action by the Dutch authorities.

COMMENT ON NEWSWEEK ARTICLE: Shell Lied to Dutch Court About Oil Spills in Nigeria, Say Friends of the Earth

POSTED BY JOHN DONOVAN

I’m not a lawyer, but the following is my understanding of the significance of the Newsweek article and the case brought by the “Friends of the Earth”.

The two Nigerian cases are actually very significant to anyone forced to confront Shell in a Dutch court.

Unlike the UK or US, there is no “discovery” in Holland and no opportunity to request documents from the other side to support a case.

The system works when everyone is honest, but fails dismally when US or UK lawyers see their role as “misleading the court” to the advantage of their client. For many lawyers, this is of course the basis of hearings in the US and the UK. read more

Shell corruption that led to blackmail

Screen Shot 2014-06-16 at 17.34.44

The invoice for the alcohol has been the foundation of a two year blackmailing operation with OSSL bombarding money demands on Shell for alcohol Shell had already paid for in full. Consequently, the OSSL invoice is of huge significance in relation to alleged very serious corruption and associated blackmail on an unprecedented scale.

I am not sure that directly comparing the explosive potential arising from the Hindenburg and the Shell Prelude is strictly appropriate. However, what is beyond doubt is that these pioneering ventures both captured the attention of the worlds media and a loss of containment on the Prelude could potentially create another catastrophic event.

The Shell Prelude, by far and away the biggest vessel the world has ever see, is nearing completion in South Korea. A well placed whistleblower says that Shell management has ignored his warnings over shoddy work in the construction and outfitting that puts safety at risk. read more
