Appomattox set sail from Ingleside, Texas, USA, to its final location in the Gulf of Mexico

The platform is the largest the oil major has ever launched in the Gulf, weighing 125,000 tonnes.

It has now set sail from Ingleside, Texas with production to begin before the end of 2019.

The energy major has not disclosed the price tag for the project, but said it has slashed billions of dollars from the bill since 2015.

The platform will operate at depths of over 2,200metres and is expected to produce 175,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day.
