Malcolm Brinded, one of the top executives at Royal Dutch Shell who is hanging on to his job in the shake-up ordered by new chief executive Peter Voser, gave an interesting presentation last week setting out the company’s view of the outlook 2020.

His message: Shell can grow its production out to 2020, but the oil price will need to stay above $70 to make all of its potential investments profitable.

His speech, to a Credit Suisse conference in London, was a corrective to some of the gloomier stories about the production outlook that came out following the company’s annual strategy update in March. read more

HAMBURG, June 12 (Reuters) – Oil giant Royal Dutch Shell (RDSa.L) is launching heating oil with a 10 percent biofuel blend content in Germany, it said on Friday.

Germany compels biofuel blending in vehicle fuels but not in heating oil.

Shell was starting the blending with heating oil voluntarily after positive trials with consumers, a spokesman for the company’s German unit Shell Deutschland Oil said.

The blending component will be largely based on rapeseed oil and sunflower oil, she said. read more

A payout could encourage others

ON JUNE 8th Royal Dutch Shell agreed to pay out $15.5m to the Ogoni people of the Niger Delta to settle a long-running court case brought against the oil giant in America by nine plaintiffs, including relatives of Ken Saro-Wiwa, an environmentalist and writer. He was executed by the brutal government of General Sani Abacha after a charade of a trial in 1995. Mr Saro-Wiwa had led a successful campaign against Shell’s activities in his homeland, even forcing the company to quit Ogoniland in 1993. The plaintiffs accused Shell of complicity in the activist’s death. read more

THE PRESS ASSOCIATION
