Gazprom CEO: May Cooperate With Shell On Yamal LNG Project

MOSCOW (Dow Jones)--Russian gas giant OAO Gazprom (GAZP.RS) is considering inviting Royal Dutch Shell PLC (RDSA) to participate in liquified natural gas projects on the Arctic Yamal Peninsula, Gazprom's Chief Executive Alexei Miller said Thursday.

Shell Nigeria Must Face Human-Rights Lawsuit in U.S.

June 3 (Bloomberg) — Shell Petroleum Development Co. of Nigeria, an affiliate ofRoyal Dutch Shell Plc, must face a lawsuit accusing it of crimes against humanity, a U.S. federal court ruled.

The U.S. Court of Appeals in New York today reinstated a case against Shell Nigeria, which a lower-court judge had dismissed last year. A related human-rights suit against Royal Dutch Shell was scheduled to go to trial last month and has been postponed indefinitely.

The appeals court also ordered the trial-court judge to reconsider rulings barring the plaintiffs from obtaining documents from Shell Nigeria. Judith Brown Chomsky, one of the lawyers suing Shell and Shell Nigeria, said the plaintiffs are now “optimistic” they’ll get more documents. read more

The Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria, an affiliate of Royal Dutch Shell, must face a lawsuit accusing it of crimes against humanity, a United States federal court ruled Wednesday.

The United States Court of Appeals in New York reinstated a case against Shell Nigeria, which a lower court judge dismissed last year. The appeals court said in its ruling that the United States court had sufficient jurisdiction over Shell Nigeria.

The appeals court also ordered the trial court judge to reconsider rulings barring the plaintiffs from obtaining documents from Shell Nigeria. read more

Shell settlement in the Wiwa v. Shell U.S. trial imminent?

Information received from an Ogoni source seems to confirm press speculation that Shell is secretly engaged in out-of-court settlement negotiations with plaintiffs in the Wiwa v. Shell trial which on Wednesday was mysteriously adjourned again, apparently indefinitely.

The plaintiffs contend that Shell colluded with the Nigerian Military Government in the 1995 execution of 9 Ogoni activists, including Ken Saro-Wiwa (above), after being convicted on trumped up charges.

We received an email on Wednesday from one of our U.S. based Ogoni sources, which includes the Wiwa family, expressing concern that compromise and betrayal involving key players may shortly result in a headline announcing: “Wiwi v. Shell Trial settled out of court”. read more
