Royal Dutch Shell and BP among FTSE 100’s worst performers
With the oil price recovering to around $50 a barrel, it may come as a surprise that Royal Dutch Shell and BP were among some of the FTSE 100's worst performers. Royal Dutch Shell lost 18pc to £14.14 and BP retreated 15pc to 446p. In part, this is because this City is worried about slowing production and that they, too, may be forced to cut their dividends. BP has already signalled it will freeze its dividend.

The current Shell leadership – “mediocrity is the best they can achieve”
The recent “Financial Times” report about Shell has received publicity here and elsewhere but it deserves further wide circulation so I have posted an extract below.
I was in touch with a former very senior Shell man (now retired) this week and he told me (I quote):
“It is scandalous that the [Shell] ‘Leadership’ voted themselves such huge salaries and bonuses. As XXX put it, they pay themselves something like an order of magnitude more than the directors of 10 to 15 years ago. I would mind less if they were a little more than mediocre, but … mediocrity is the best they can achieve.”

Dear CCR Supporter,
On May 26, 2009, the Center for Constitutional Rights (CCR), co-counsel EarthRights International (ERI), and other human rights attorneys will bring oil giant Shell to federal court in New York for the start of a landmark trial for corporate accountability. CCR is pleased to make two exciting announcements as we draw nearer to the trial: we are launching a short film developed by CCR and ERI titled The Case Against Shell, and a new website, <www.WiwavShell.org>.
