HOUSTON, March 16 (Reuters) – Crews have completed installation of the oil drilling and production platform on the record-breaking Perdido spar in the western U.S. Gulf of Mexico, Shell Oil Co (RDSa.L) announced Monday.
Floating in waters about 8,000 feet (2,400 meters) deep, Perdido, run by Shell for partners BP Plc (BP.L) and Chevron (CVX.N), is the deepest such project in the world, Shell said in a news release.
Perdido will be capable of producing 130,000 barrels per day of oil equivalent when operational, Shell said.
Over the next several months, 270 personnel living on the platform and an adjacent floating living quarters will finish hookups needed to produce the first oil and gas from the Great White, Tobago and Silvertip fields, Shell said.
Perdido is located in a remote part of the western Gulf, and required installation of more than 77 miles (124 km) of oil pipelines and 107 miles of natural gas lines to bring the production to market, Shell said.
The project began with a U.S. Minerals Management Service lease sale in 1996. Several technologies had to be pioneered before development could begin in 2006, Shell said. (Reporting by Bruce Nichols; Editing by Marguerita Choy)

Royal Dutch Shell conspired directly with Hitler, financed the Nazi Party, was anti-Semitic and sold out its own Dutch Jewish employees to the Nazis. Shell had a close relationship with the Nazis during and after the reign of Sir Henri Deterding, an ardent Nazi, and the founder and decades long leader of the Royal Dutch Shell Group. His burial ceremony, which had all the trappings of a state funeral, was held at his private estate in Mecklenburg, Germany. The spectacle (photographs below) included a funeral procession led by a horse drawn funeral hearse with senior Nazis officials and senior Royal Dutch Shell directors in attendance, Nazi salutes at the graveside, swastika banners on display and wreaths and personal tributes from Adolf Hitler and Reichsmarschall, Hermann Goring. Deterding was an honored associate and supporter of Hitler and a personal friend of Goring.
Deterding was the guest of Hitler during a four day summit meeting at Berchtesgaden. Sir Henri and Hitler both had ambitions on Russian oil fields. Only an honored personal guest would be rewarded with a private four day meeting at Hitler’s mountain top retreat.
