Shell project will have impact beyond Canada
As an elected state legislator, my role is clear: Ensure the concerns of my constituents are heard and addressed in Lansing. Representing St. Clair County, however, offers unique challenges. Unlike many other Michigan communities, we not only are directly impacted by the decisions of our state, but also those of a foreign country.
Shell has hosted over 20 informational open houses on the expansion project to allow interested individuals to ask questions and voice their concerns. Up to this point, however, none have been held in Michigan. Believing our concerns warrant equal attention, I contacted Shell and requested they give St. Clair County residents the same courtesy by holding such a meeting in Michigan.
The meeting is scheduled for Monday at the East China Township Offices (5111 River Road, East China) from 9 to 11 a.m. Shell will have experts on hand to answer questions and address concerns on air and water quality, the environmental assessment process and the project’s time line.
I hope everyone with an interest in this project will make time to join me Monday in East China Township. Now is our chance to have the concerns of St. Clair County officially addressed. For more information, please contact my office at: (517) 373-1790 or [email protected].

Royal Dutch Shell conspired directly with Hitler, financed the Nazi Party, was anti-Semitic and sold out its own Dutch Jewish employees to the Nazis. Shell had a close relationship with the Nazis during and after the reign of Sir Henri Deterding, an ardent Nazi, and the founder and decades long leader of the Royal Dutch Shell Group. His burial ceremony, which had all the trappings of a state funeral, was held at his private estate in Mecklenburg, Germany. The spectacle (photographs below) included a funeral procession led by a horse drawn funeral hearse with senior Nazis officials and senior Royal Dutch Shell directors in attendance, Nazi salutes at the graveside, swastika banners on display and wreaths and personal tributes from Adolf Hitler and Reichsmarschall, Hermann Goring. Deterding was an honored associate and supporter of Hitler and a personal friend of Goring.
Deterding was the guest of Hitler during a four day summit meeting at Berchtesgaden. Sir Henri and Hitler both had ambitions on Russian oil fields. Only an honored personal guest would be rewarded with a private four day meeting at Hitler’s mountain top retreat.
