The Brunei Health Expo opened yesterday to an overwhelming response as scores of people visited the exhibition at the ICC.

A total of 110 booths have been set up by 74 exhibitors, which include the Ministry of Health that is showcasing its history and progress. Other exhibitors include corporations which are promoting products and services such as medicine, healthy food, healthy lifestyle, sports science, dental and body building products.

Among the participating corporations is Brunei Press Sdn Bhd. In an interview with the Bulletin, the General Manager of Brunei Press Sdn Bhd Mr Reggie See, said “Health is Wealth” which is the kind of message they are trying to send out.

He added that, “Brunei Press Sdn Bhd is doing its part of responsibility in promoting community service by having good articles published which give tips on health in the Borneo Bulletin”. The company is also regularly involved in health awareness campaigns.

Commenting on the expo, he said, “The expo is comprehensive in terms of showcasing new health products, tips for better health … it is positive for better living”.

He also mentioned the eight-page supplement published in conjunction with the Health Expo in the Borneo Bulletin yesterday.

Meanwhile, Brunei Shell Petroleum Sdn Bhd is also taking part in the expo. The Bulletin caught up with Dyg Suriani Garip, a representative of Brunei Shell Petroleum, to find out about the company’s contribution to health in the country.

The health promotion centre, for which the Royal Dutch Shell donated US$5 million dollars to build, is the first Brunei health promotion centre. It is a gift to commemorate His Majesty’s 60th birthday celebration. The health promotion centre follows the model of the Oil and Gas Discovery Centre and will be completed next year.

In Kuala Belait, Brunei Shell Petroleum Sdn Bhd donated $250,000 to the Suri Seri Begawan Hospital to buy a new ambulance, vital monitors and mannequins for training. BSP has also held symposiums and seminars on health.

“HSE or Health Safety Environment is the core of our policy. We do mandatory health check-ups of staff. Healthy lifestyle programmes are also held such as programmes to quit smoking.”

On her views on the expo, she said, “It is timely and offers a good platform to find out what other organisations have done in promoting healthy lifestyles”.
