Every page of the minutes was marked “MOST CONFIDENTIAL” because the discussions covered Shell’s commercially sensitive plans and one potentially explosive subject, Shell hydrocarbon reserves. We will comment on just a few issues.

Nikkei BP (Japan): Gripe sites are becoming more powerful

English translation by the author Ryo Kuroki from his article on the website of the top circulation Japanese Business Magazine: Nikkei BP

The turmoil of Sakhalin 2 was partly a result of anti-Shell movement

(By Ryo Kuroki, 12 Nov. 2007)

In the past people who hold resentment or grudge against a company were only able to appeal to newspapers and magazines or distribute handbills on streets. However, the media only reports on a small number of cases and the effect of distributing handbills by the roadside is very limited. People can also bring law suits, but Japan’s trial takes long time and the judgement is often not fair. It does not worth legal expenses you have to spend. read more

The company operates three different businesses in Africa’s top oil producer and the restructuring will involve sharing previously separate functions including production, development and projects.

“We are operating in an extremely difficult environment where levels of production have been severely curtailed by the security situation for some time, where there is significant upward pressure on costs and where funding issues are having an impact on our operations,” said Basil Omiyi, chairman of Shell’s Nigerian businesses. read more

Confidential document confirms Shell link to Sudanese Military

13 November 2007

On 14 January 2006, The Board of Trustees of Amherst College located in Amherst, Massachusetts, passed a resolution to divest all investments in multinational companies “identified as having direct business ties to the Sudanese government or companies whose business activities are in direct support of these companies and the activities of the government”. The divestment action was taken based on alleged human atrocities “wholly inconsistent with the moral and ethical values of Amherst College” and alleged evidence of genocide against the people of the Darfur region allegedly committed by the Sudanese government. Khaleej Times: China-Iran oil talks slowed by terms, not politics

(Reuters)
13 November 2007

BEIJING – China’s drive to invest in Iran’s biggest undeveloped oilfield in return for gas supplies is being stymied by tough commercial negotiations, not the threat of more sanctions, Chinese oil officials said on Tuesday.

The negotiations, now entering their fourth year after a preliminary agreement in November 2004, are undeterred by political tensions and the possibility that Western powers will seek tighter economic restrictions on Teheran, they said.

‘The negotiations with Iranians are primarily commercially focused. Politics are not the key,’ an industry executive involved in high-level negotiations with Iran told Reuters. read more

Insight into the secret machinations of Royal Dutch Shell Execs

By Alfred and John Donovan
Tuesday 13 November 2007

Every day, a website operated by the authors of this article, www.royaldutchshellplc.com – described by the Financial Times as being “anti-Shell”, publishes secret documents relating to the oil giant Shell. Most are Shell internal documents.

The confidential information being put into the public domain on the open Internet is highly damaging and embarrassing to Shell, which appears powerless to stop the flow of documents and the damage being inflicted. Shell is being made into an international laughing stock in the oil industry. read more

Former Shell Exec Paddy Briggs responds to criticism from ‘David’

David

I don’t object to your post – you are entitled to suggest that I am “self-righteous” if you wish and to accuse me of writing a tirade as well if that is what you believe it to be. Others may take a different view of both assertions. Others still, who knew me in Shell, would probably testify that I was as much of a pain in the butt when I was working for the company as I am now! I protested about many things and changed a few as well – but you will have to wait for my book “the Changing Face of Shell” to read these stories! By the way to suggest that I profess to be Mother Teresa is a new charge and a splendidly surreal one. I do not profess to be anyone but myself. And I try to tell the truth as I see it whilst (modestly) being conscious of the truism that the “truth has many faces”… Finally my pension is decent, but far from “rich” read more

Gazprom, Russia’s state-owned energy company, is considering taking equity stakes in two London-listed oil companies that had hitherto faced problems with government regulators.
