DOZENS of oil workers were evacuated from a North Sea platform after spending two days with no lights and no hot water.
The 61 staff were flown by helicopter to nearby rigs after the power failed on Shell’s Brent Bravo platform. The company said the workers were taken off on Sunday as a precaution and insisted there had been no threat to their safety.
Two years ago, Shell was fined £900,000 for a series of safety failings that led to the deaths of two men who were overcome by gas on the Brent Bravo.
The platform, 116 miles north-east of Lerwick, is undergoing three months of routine maintenance and the main part of the structure is shut down.
A Shell spokeswoman said: “There was a trip in the power late on Friday. A spare fuel pump was flown out to the platform but at 8pm on Saturday there was another problem and they lost power again.”

The spectacle (photographs below) included a funeral procession led by a horse drawn funeral hearse with senior Nazis officials and senior Royal Dutch Shell directors in attendance, Nazi salutes at the graveside, swastika banners on display and wreaths and personal tributes from Adolf Hitler and Reichsmarschall, Hermann Goring. Deterding was an honored associate and supporter of Hitler and a personal friend of Goring.
Deterding was the guest of Hitler during a four day summit meeting at Berchtesgaden. Sir Henri and Hitler both had ambitions on Russian oil fields. Only an honored personal guest would be rewarded with a private four day meeting at Hitler’s mountain top retreat.
