LONDON (MarketWatch) — A crude oil exploration rig located in the Soku Field, Nigeria, has been temporarily shut down and personnel evacuated following an attack by a militant group but output has not been affected.

Spokeswoman Eurwen Thomas said five workers employed by contractor Lonestar Drilling had been abducted during the attack.

The drilling rig was attacked overnight, the hostages taken include one Australian, two New Zealanders, one Venezuelan and one Lebanese worker.

“The well has been secured and all personnel evacuated,” Thomas said. “Our thoughts are with the families of (the workers) involved.”

The Soku field drilling-rig is located in the east of the Niger Delta, and as it is being used for exploration purposes the attack has not impacted production from the area.
