TECHNIP has clinched another subsea contract in the US from Shell to install water injection systems on the Ursa and Princess oil fields in the Gulf of Mexico.
The French contractor will use its pipelay vessel Deep Blue from the fourth quarter this year to lay water injection flexible flowlines and risers, which will be manufactured at Technip’s Mobile, Alabama facilities.
Four subsea water injection wells will be tied back to the Ursa tension-leg platform, which lies in the Mississippi Canyon area to boost production next year.
EXXONMOBIL and partners in the Point Thomson gas field on Alaska’s North Slope have gained another month to appeal against the state’s decision to revoke licences due to failure to develop the resources.
The US major, with Chevron, ConocoPhillips and BP, is fighting to keep 100 licences over the field, which holds up to 9trn cu ft of gas. They want to link it to the proposed, but delayed Alaska gas pipeline. Point Thomson is considered crucial to a new pipeline that would ship gas to US markets.
NORWEGIAN oil independent Det Norske Oljeselskap has secured a NKr300m ($49m) loan from the Bank of Scotland to fund its Norwegian exploration programme.
The Oslo-listed firm is planning to participate in seven exploration wells this year, three as operator, in Norway. It holds interests in 22 licences on the Norwegian Continental Shelf.
ACERGY has clinched a $28m contract from Norsk Shell to install subsea flexible pipelines and umbilicals on the Draugen area of the Norwegian Sea in the third quarter of 2008.
The European contractor is helping Shell develop the Garn West and Rogn South oil fields, which are in 300 m of water and will be tied back to the nearby Draugen production platform.
ENI and Petrobras have agreed to form a partnership to develop biofuel and oil refining projects. Italian major Eni is planning to build a 250,000 tonne plant at the Livorno refinery to produce bio-diesel. Eni will also supply its slurry technology to the Brazilian state firm for upstream and downstream projects in Brazil.
EGDON Resources has submitted its plans to the British government and Dorset County Council to build a gas storage centre on the Isle of Portland and install a gas pipeline under Weymouth harbour in 2009. If Egdon gains approval then the first gas could be stored in 2010.
STERLING Energy has completed its $145m acquisition of Whittier Energy to double its US Gulf Coast gas production and increase cash flow. The London-listed firm plans to drill 40 wells on the Whittier assets in the next 12 months to find and develop new reserves.

Royal Dutch Shell conspired directly with Hitler, financed the Nazi Party, was anti-Semitic and sold out its own Dutch Jewish employees to the Nazis. Shell had a close relationship with the Nazis during and after the reign of Sir Henri Deterding, an ardent Nazi, and the founder and decades long leader of the Royal Dutch Shell Group. His burial ceremony, which had all the trappings of a state funeral, was held at his private estate in Mecklenburg, Germany. The spectacle (photographs below) included a funeral procession led by a horse drawn funeral hearse with senior Nazis officials and senior Royal Dutch Shell directors in attendance, Nazi salutes at the graveside, swastika banners on display and wreaths and personal tributes from Adolf Hitler and Reichsmarschall, Hermann Goring. Deterding was an honored associate and supporter of Hitler and a personal friend of Goring.
Deterding was the guest of Hitler during a four day summit meeting at Berchtesgaden. Sir Henri and Hitler both had ambitions on Russian oil fields. Only an honored personal guest would be rewarded with a private four day meeting at Hitler’s mountain top retreat.
