KUCHING: Poverty has not stopped Andy Mark Tipi from doing well in last year’s Penilaian Menengah Rendah (PMR) examination.
On Tuesday, the efforts of the SM Teknik Sejingkat student, who scored 6As and 1B which made him one of the State’s top achievers, were recognised when Sarawak Shell Berhad offered him a scholarship.
He was among 145 students awarded bursaries and scholarships by the company for doing well in their studies and co-curricular activities.
The bursary is worth RM750 a year while the scholarships are awarded to students pursuing their education at local and foreign universities.
Mark aims to be an engineer “I have great admiration for engineers,” he said after receiving the bursary from Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Alfred Jabu on Tuesday.
SSB managing director Wee Yiaw Hin said the company would be spending RM4.7 million this year sponsoring the education of students in Sarawak and Sabah.

The spectacle (photographs below) included a funeral procession led by a horse drawn funeral hearse with senior Nazis officials and senior Royal Dutch Shell directors in attendance, Nazi salutes at the graveside, swastika banners on display and wreaths and personal tributes from Adolf Hitler and Reichsmarschall, Hermann Goring. Deterding was an honored associate and supporter of Hitler and a personal friend of Goring.
Deterding was the guest of Hitler during a four day summit meeting at Berchtesgaden. Sir Henri and Hitler both had ambitions on Russian oil fields. Only an honored personal guest would be rewarded with a private four day meeting at Hitler’s mountain top retreat.
