Globe & Mail (Canada): Shell sets BlackRock output

CALGARY — Shell Canada Ltd. expects to achieve crude oil output of between 30,000 and 50,000 barrels a day from its recent acquisition of BlackRock Ventures Inc., the company said yesterday.

Shell Canada is also evaluating two, 50,000 barrel-a-day expansion block options at its existing Peace River operations, which are adjacent to its BlackRock acquisition. Shell expects to make a decision by 2007 on whether to expand its Peace River operations, which currently produce 8,000 barrels a day, Ian Kilgour, senior vice-president of exploration and production at Shell Canada, said at a conference. read more

Daily Telegraph: Market report

By Yvette Essen
(Filed: 15/06/2006)

It was Bid City as numerous takeover rumours flew around dealing floors surrounding a host of companies including AstraZeneca, Crest Nicholson and Tullow Oil.

Drugs giant AstraZeneca was the biggest riser in the FTSE 100 as hopes resurfaced that Swiss company Novartis could have the stock on its watch list and may pay as much as £40 a share for the company. The shares rose 74p to £30.16.

Housebuilder Crest Nicholson rallied to as high as 519p on renewed rumours that rival Bovis Homes was taking a stake in the group. Traders have speculated for months that entrepreneur Gerald Ronson’s 23.4pc holding in Crest is up for grabs and that a sale of the stake could act as a launch pad for a bid for the entire company. read more

UPI: Russia’s Molikpaq platform working again

MOSCOW, June 14 (UPI) — Russia’s Pacific offshore oil platform Molikpaq has returned to duty and begun the summer oil extraction season, ITAR-TASS reported Wednesday.

Molikpaq, which is owned by Sakhalin Energy, was out of operation during the winter months, as its location in the Sea of Okhotsk means that operators must first wait for the sea to become free of ice before lifting the floating berth from the sea bed and docking the Okha supertanker, which is used for storage during the season. read more

BBC News: The rocky road to oil riches

By Toby Poston
Business reporter

Colorado, America’s “Centennial State”, is home to four-and-a-half million people, lots of cattle, and potentially the world’s biggest reserves of oil.

The US Energy department thinks that the state is sitting on about a trillion barrels worth of oil, as much as the rest of the world’s conventional oil reserves added together.

Trouble is, it’s not quite ready to be extracted yet.

The state’s “black gold” is trapped thousands of feet underground in the kerogen-rich shale rock deposits of western Colorado. read more
