Ulster TV: Mayo councillors to meet Rossport Five

“The five men are beginning their ninth week in Cloverhill Prison for obstructing the building of the controversial Corrib gas pipeline.”

WEDNESDAY 24/08/2005

Mayo County Councillors are to visit the Rossport Five today to discuss options that might secure the men’s release from jail.

The five men are beginning their ninth week in Cloverhill Prison for obstructing the building of the controversial Corrib gas pipeline.

Earlier this month, Mayo County Council rejected a motion to call on Shell to build the terminal offshore.

But Council Chairman Henry Kenny says today they will take the role of neutral negotiators in a listening capacity.
