Royal Dutch Shell bosses should have been popping champagne corks this week. Instead, they’re likely to have been drowning their sorrows. The company moved to a single UK stock listing on Jul. 20, ending nearly a century of corporate history and making good on promises to simplify governance structures in the wake of last year’s reserves accounting scandals.

But the historic move has been overshadowed by a new upstream crisis, this time over spiraling costs at the Sakhalin-2 LNG development in Russia. Shell has said it now expects the project to cost $20 billion, up an eye-watering $10 billion from the original 2003 estimate. read more

NATURAL Resources Minister Noel Dempsey has told Shell he regards it as being in breach of the “consents” they received for work on the controversial Mayo gas pipeline.

It is understood that Mr Dempsey wrote to Shell Ireland last night following an earlier exchange of letters between his Department and the company.

He has told them he wants them to “undo” the work that they have carried out in this regard.

He has also told them there will be increased monitoring of the Shell operation. read more

Minister for the Marine Noel Dempsey has ordered Shell E&P Ireland to dismantle the Corrib gas pipeline section which it has welded together onshore in north Mayo, writes Lorna Siggins , Marine Correspondent.

Just under 3km of pipeline had been welded without ministerial approval and the Minister informed the company last night that it must be taken apart.

The Minister also told Shell that it will be subject to closer monitoring by his new ministerial technical group as a result of the breach. read more

SHELL has been told by Natural Resources Minister Noel Dempsey that it is in breach of the ‘consents’ it received for work on the controversial Mayo gas pipeline.

It is understood Mr Dempsey wrote to Shell Ireland last night following an earlier exchange of letters. He has told the company that he wants it to “undo” the work carried out under the consents.

Five Mayo men, now known as the Rossport Five, have been in prison for more than a month. They were jailed for contempt of court following protests over the Shell development. read more

The Minster for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources Noel Dempsey has ordered oil giant Shell to dismantle a three-kilometre gas pipeline in the west of Ireland which had been constructed without permission.

The pipeline, which is intended to transport gas from the Corrib gas field off the coast of Co Mayo to an onshore refinery, has led to widespread protests and the jailing of five men opposed to it.

BASF AG and Royal Dutch Shell PLC said Monday they had completed a deal to sell their Basell NV plastics joint venture in a euro4.4 billion (US$5.32 billion) deal to Nell Acquisition, part of privately held Access Industries.

The deal, announced in May, received regulatory approval in Europe and the United States. The Chatterjee Group, a private investment group, had been part of the deal to buy the business but pulled out last month.

Basell was formed as a joint venture in 2000 so that Shell Chemicals and BASF could consolidate their polyolefins businesses across the world and announced plans to review its options in 2004. read more

THE HAGUE, Netherlands – Royal Dutch Shell PLC said Monday its Shell Exploration & Production Company has been awarded 84 leases off the coast of Alaska in the Beaufort Sea.

The leases were granted by the U.S. Minerals Management Service after Shell bid in March on the leases in the so-called Outer Continental Shelf.

“Shell is committed to growing globally through exploration for new material oil and more integrated gas and we believe North America continues to hold promising opportunities,” Shell said in a statement. read more
