Dear Mr White

This is a follow up to my Subject Access Request under the Data Protection Act filed yesterday by email.

When you supplied information in 2007, the redacted information was immediately discernible as per this example, with black blanking out clearly showing precisely what information had been hidden.

Now an example from the documents recently supplied to my son by Shell in which, even with guess work, it is impossible to be certain of whether information has been hidden, or how much. A whole section of text appears to have been hidden. This possibility is deduced firstly from the opening text, which mentions “key points”, with only one point actually being shown, and secondly, from the faint vertical line to the right of a deep space between the opening text and the only point shown. However, there are other faint vertical lines on the same page for which there is no obvious reason. On the penultimate line of text, there is a gap between “Donovan and “Donovan”. There is no way of telling if any text has been redacted from the gap.

If the same redaction process had been used as per the previous documents supplied by Shell in 2007, none of this guess work and uncertainty would arise. Consequently, can you please use the black blanking out process in any redaction of information in the documents you supply on this occasion.

On a personal note, you are welcome to email to us a head shot photograph for display on our website on appropriate articles, as your colleague Richard Wiseman has already done.

Best Regards

Alfred
