SANTO DOMINGO. – Representatives of the Government and of the Shell maintain a confrontation over the Dominican Petroleum Refinery’s (Refidomsa) Governing Board, when officials asked that 3 plant executives be fired, which the multinational company opposes.
The newspaper Listin Diario reports that Shell as well as the Government officials who are in the Board have kept silence on the confrontations, but it was learned yesterday that one of the reasons is the official sector’s requests of explanations on the operations to purchase and market fuels.
Four months ago it was learned that Shell aims to sell its stake in Refidomsa but apparently have yet to receive tender offers.
In that regard, it was also learned that Shell hasn’t kept the Government abreast on the manner in which it conducts those negotiations.
The Shell and the Dominican Government have equal stakes as co-owners of Refidomsa, and each has 4 members on the Board, situation which according to reports makes it almost impossible to overcome impasses.
In the agreement that allowed the creation this company in 1973 the Dominican State yielded to the Shell the administration the Refidomsa.
Although no details were provided, it was reported that the differences began when Shell executives refused to acquire fuels within the Petrocaribe pact with Venezuela, which would give the country long term advantages of financing and lower fuel prices locally.
Listin Diario reports that for weeks has been trying to make contact Refidomsa Board president Rubén Montás, and the vice president and Shell’s representative Rafael Maradiaga, but both have declined interviews.

Royal Dutch Shell conspired directly with Hitler, financed the Nazi Party, was anti-Semitic and sold out its own Dutch Jewish employees to the Nazis. Shell had a close relationship with the Nazis during and after the reign of Sir Henri Deterding, an ardent Nazi, and the founder and decades long leader of the Royal Dutch Shell Group. His burial ceremony, which had all the trappings of a state funeral, was held at his private estate in Mecklenburg, Germany. The spectacle (photographs below) included a funeral procession led by a horse drawn funeral hearse with senior Nazis officials and senior Royal Dutch Shell directors in attendance, Nazi salutes at the graveside, swastika banners on display and wreaths and personal tributes from Adolf Hitler and Reichsmarschall, Hermann Goring. Deterding was an honored associate and supporter of Hitler and a personal friend of Goring.
Deterding was the guest of Hitler during a four day summit meeting at Berchtesgaden. Sir Henri and Hitler both had ambitions on Russian oil fields. Only an honored personal guest would be rewarded with a private four day meeting at Hitler’s mountain top retreat.
