Shell starts Pohokura
SHELL has started the main production platform on the Pohokura project offshore New Zealand to boost gas and condensate deliveries, writes Martyn Wingrove.
Offshore hydrocarbons are piped from the platform, 8 km from the North Island coast, to an onshore processing station at Motunui, near New Plymouth.
Gas from Pohokura is fed directly to the national grid and condensates are piped to storage tanks at Omata.
THOUSANDS of Thai offshore workers are to be retrained as the government has agreed to improve safety standards.
The Bangkok government has asked national training organisation Technical Petroleum Training Institute of Thailand to work with Scottish skills body Opito to establish a competence standards framework covering workers in the Gulf of Thailand.
SBM Offshore has seen new orders soar to $4.9bn, from $1.5bn reported in 2005, on the back of strong demand for floating production systems and tanker loading terminals.
The Monaco-based group saw net operating profits grow 40% last year as new vessels started producing oil, including FPSO Capixaba offshore Brazil.
Last year, SBM’s orders included two Angolan FPSOs from ExxonMobil and a production ship from Brazil.

NORTH Sea explorer Elixir Petroleum is to merge with Australian firm Gawler Resources to gain near-term gas production and keep its investors happy.
This merger combines a Gulf of Mexico gas development, due on stream in September, with wildcat exploration potential in the UK.
London-listed Elixir will hold 52% in the new company and will keep its listing on the Alternative Investment Market.
OCEANTEAM Power ‘ Umbilical has clinched a €25m ($33.3m) contract from E.ON to lay power cables on the Robin Rigg wind farm in the Solway Firth to an onshore grid point.
Oceanteam is responsible for importing the cable from Norway and Italy and will lay and bury cables between 60 wind turbines and the two export cables to Wokington, Cumbria. Marine operations are due to commence by December but Oceanteam is yet to charter a ship.
MODEC’s floating storage and offloading vessel Cidade de Macae is en route to its Brazilian installation point after completing sea trials. The ship will be the hub of a major tanker export terminal off Rio de Janeiro.
The FSO will be able to receive 818,000 barrels of crude per day from Petrobras’ latest deepwater production semi-submersibles on the Roncador and Marlim Sul fields and can store 2.15bn barrels.
OILEXCO has extended its contract for Diamond Offshore’s drilling rig Ocean Guardian for another year to explore for more oil and develop existing fields.
The Canadian firm will be paying $350,000 a day for the rig, with the extension costing more than $127m.

Royal Dutch Shell conspired directly with Hitler, financed the Nazi Party, was anti-Semitic and sold out its own Dutch Jewish employees to the Nazis. Deterding was an honored associate and supporter of Hitler and a personal friend of Goring.
Deterding was the guest of Hitler during a four day summit meeting at Berchtesgaden. Sir Henri and Hitler both had ambitions on Russian oil fields. Only an honored personal guest would be rewarded with a private four day meeting at Hitler’s mountain top retreat.
