Irish Independent: Shell To Sea group say Shell’s plans are ‘recipe for conflict’

Thursday August 3rd 2006

The dispute over the Corrib gas pipeline looks to be no nearer to a resolution after opponents to the project rejected fresh proposals from Shell.

The company says it is wiling to divert the course of the pipeline away from housing near Rossport in County Mayo, in accordance with a recommendation made last week by mediator Peter Cassels.

It plans to resume work on the project in September.

Anti-pipeline group ‘Shell to Sea’ says today’s proposal ignores their concerns and changes nothing.

The group’s spokesperson is Mark Garavan said today, “What we have said is, the question of the Corrib gas giving rise to a problem only occurs because of Shell’s method of processing the gas.”

“What we have suggested is, if we find another method to process that gas then the Corrib gas project will be able to proceed fully, with the consent of the local people.”

Mr Garavan added, “Shell have decided to process the gas in the way they originally intended and that, unfortunately is a recipe for conflict.” and its sister non-profit websites,,,,,, and are owned by John Donovan. There is also a Wikipedia feature.
