Corrib Irish Pipeline Controversy

Shell will cheat the Irish in every way possible and laugh all the way to the bank in the process.”

Comment from a former employee of Shell Oil USA on the Corrib Gas Dispute

I have a fee comments about the Irish pipeline controversy.

I won’t comment at length on the deal an incompetent or corrupt (or both) Irish government cut with Shell, and partners, concerning royalties, taxes, etc., on the Corrib project. All that need be said is that the Irish government has given ‘big oil’ one of the best possible deals in the Greater North Sea/Atlantic geologic province when it comes to oil and gas production royalties and taxes, and their actions are almost entirely to the benefit of ‘big oil’. read more

Former Shell insider speaks out on Iran

Shell management, like most management in multi-national corporations, is completely amoral and holds no loyalties except to the furtherance of their careers and the amassing of plunder, power and influence. They are predators, pure plane and simple, and always looking for the next target of opportunity. Modern day pirates in suits.

From a former Shell insider

Before I went to work for Shell, many years ago, I spend a year doing earthquake hazards work in Iran for the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI). I worked on the site at Bushier, where Iran’s only ‘commercial’ reactor is located, and I worked in and around the city of Esfahan, where many of Iran’s nuclear research facilities are located. This was in the last days of the Shah’s regime. I headed up the field team that was doing the mapping for a proposed nuclear power plant to be located SW of Esfahan. The nuclear power plant at Bushier was being built by the French and Germans at that time and was supposed to have come on line in 1981. read more

Europe’s oil firms resist US over Iran

Sat Oct 2, 2010 9:44AM

European oil giants are resisting US pressure to stop buying Iranian crude oil, saying they will leave the country only when their contracts expire.

US Deputy Secretary of State James Steinberg said last Thursday that France’s Total, Norway’s Statoil, Italy’s ENI and Royal Dutch Shell would suspend dealings with Iran voluntarily, in support of US-engineered sanctions against Iran over its nuclear work.

All four firms, however, said on Friday they would maintain dealings with Iran.

Moreover, France’s Total announced Friday that it was still purchasing Iranian crude while Royal Dutch Shell noted that it was not illegal to take delivery of Iranian crude under the latest United Nations sanctions, Reuters reported. read more

Corrib Gas Dispute: Statement by Maura Harrington to An Bord Pleanála hearing

On 12 October 2006 Harrington sustained head and neck injuries while Gardaí cleared demonstrators blocking an access road used by Shell workers. On 9 September 2008 she began a hunger strike in protest at the arrival of the Solitaire, an Allseas pipe-laying ship assisting Royal Dutch Shell's Corrib gas project.

Pipeline risk overstated – Shell

The Irish Times – Saturday, October 2, 2010

ÁINE RYAN

RISK FROM the proposed Corrib gas pipeline “is no greater than that posed by existing transmission pipelines across Ireland”, according to Shell EP Ireland.

Speaking yesterday in Belmullet, Co Mayo, on the final day of the resumed An Bord Pleanála hearing into the last section of the controversial pipeline, senior counsel Esmonde Keane said Shell’s latest application had “satisfied all relevant criteria” set down by the planning appeals board in its letter of November 2nd, 2009. read more
