MANILA, Philippines – Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corp. denied it has defrauded the government of billions of pesos of excise taxes for importing a blending component for unleaded gasoline.

In a statement, the oil importer said the product in question, alkalyte, is not a finished product and therefore not subject to an excise tax.

“However, when the alkylate is further processed into finished unleaded gasoline product that is fit and ready for consumption, the finished product is subject to the payment of excise taxes before the same is released from Shell’s refinery. In other words, no excise tax is lost on the alkylate imports in question,” it said. read more

Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corp. is scheduled to open today the country’s first ever compressed natural gas (CNG) mother refuelling station in Tabangao, Batangas and its daughter station.

The facility is expected to benefit an initial fleet of 200 CNG-fed public utility buses.

Due to higher marginal costs of soaring fuel prices in the world market, Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corp.’s full year net profits for this year may fall short of its P3-billion target.

At the sidelines of the launching of a new oil product, Shell country chairman Edgar Chua said on Tuesday night that as of end-May, the company achieved only 25 percent of its full-year target. “By this time, we should have been registering 41 percent to meet our target for 2004,” Chua said. read more

The main office of Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corp. could have been the original target of last Monday’s grenade attack in Makati City, police said yesterday.

Chief Superintendent Prospero Noble Jr., Southern Police District (SPD) director, said the Shell headquarters on Valero corner Villar street in Salcedo Village, Makati City was not attacked because of the heavy security outside its premises.

“Security personnel of the Shell office informed us that prior to the 3:40 a.m. attack at the Gercon Plaza along Makati Avenue, they saw a vehicle pass by the Shell building twice,” said. He added the guards jotted down the plate number and the SPD is currently tracking down the owner of the said vehicle. read more
