SHELL SPONSORED CORRUPTION OF THE IRISH POLICE

Under the circumstances, I wondered if a pilot scheme was underway in Ireland already, with Shell sponsoring the Garda? Was some foolish government official or department conned into believing that Royal Dutch Shell is reputable? If so, I would have thought the sponsorship should flow into state coffers, rather than down the throats of apparently very thirsty police officers.

RoyalDutchShellPlc.com hacked off

Screen Shot 2013-04-25 at 17.19.06By John Donovan: Printed below is current email correspondence with the Open Security Foundation DataLossDB project, which had seen reports posted on the Internet that this website had been hacked by the “Brazilian Electronic Army”. The claims were false. Like the Brazilian Electronic Army, the Open Security Foundation seems to be under the impression that we are Royal Dutch Shell Plc.

BP a novice at manipulating Wikipedia compared with Shell

Screen Shot 2013-04-16 at 23.58.28In Shell’s case, a vast amount of information, which fully met Wikipedia guidelines, but was deemed damaging to Shell’s reputation, has been either covertly removed, or removed in dubious circumstances by editors hiding their identity behind an alias, as they are allowed to do. Royal Dutch Shell articles on Wikipedia are, in my experience, regularly patrolled and edited by individuals sympathetic to Shell. Most of the articles have been deleted in their entirety.

By John Donovan

According to a recent cnet.com news report, BP’s press office has been accused of a behind the scenes operation allegedly rewriting an estimated 44 percent of the oil giant’s Wikipedia page: BP accused of rewriting environmental record on Wikipedia

Extract

BP is not directly editing its page, but instead has apparently inserted a BP representative into the editing community who provides Wikipedia editors with text.

The text is then copied “as is” onto the page by Wikipedia editors. Readers might assume its unbiased information when its, in fact, vetted by higher-ups at BP before hitting the page. read more

ROYAL DUTCH SHELL SCREW UP IN THE ARCTIC

Dear Mr. Salazar

ROYAL DUTCH SHELL SCREW UP IN THE ARCTIC

I am contacting you in your capacity as the Secretary of the Interior.

With my father, who will be 96 this month, I operate an independent, entirely non-commercial website – *royaldutchshellplc.com – that monitors the activities of Royal Dutch Shell.

We regularly publish Shell internal information supplied by a network of insiders who have provided information in relation to what you have aptly described as a “screw-up” by Shell in its Arctic drilling campaign.

Update on cyber-espionage attacks

Screen Shot 2013-03-20 at 17.41.41By John Donovan: High tech sophisticated attacks are still targeting this website every few minutes, day and night. Someone with very deep pockets continues to spend a lot of time and resources trying to disrupt and thwart our activities. The associated threats also continue. I wonder when whoever is responsible will realise that their efforts are counter-productive? The underhand cowardly attacks and the related intimidation only makes us more determined to continue operating this entirely non-commercial website focused on the activities of Royal Dutch Shell Plc. Shell has denied any involvement or knowledge of the covert activity. We are aware that Shell has been in past contact with the National Cyber-Forensics & Training Alliance in Pittsburgh (of which Shell is a member) in an attempt to block our outspoken activities. This was triggered by Shell Oil Company in a panicked reaction to our contact with Bill O’Reilly of Fox News regarding Shell’s linkage with Iran – an extremely sensitive subject.  read more

Shell Buckets, Superbuckets and Rustbuckets

Screen Shot 2013-01-11 at 20.09.51How come that nobody dared say what everyone in the world saw (thanks to the Donovans) that you simply cannot go to this most sensitive area in the world with a couple of old rustbuckets? The timing of the most recent Shell reorganisation to buckets and superbuckets was very opportune. I wonder if there now exists also a rustbucket? Not many other outfits (apart from the political world) would allow such incompetence without consequence.

From ‘an old EP hand’

Shell has suspended Alaska drilling operations. We knew that project management had gone down the drain over the years (by being over budget by a factor 2-6, delays of many years and under-performance) when political correctness and nice promises became more important than honesty and good delivery. Now it is also clear that technical competence has gone or at least is silenced and stopped from making itself heard.

Processes (the love baby of bearded Brinded) replaced skills. Technical know-how which had been carefully built up over many years was removed as less important and ‘the contractor would do it all’. I bet that all the boxes for the various VARs (Value Assurance Reviews) and other process controls were ticked off as necessary. No-one apparently dared mention ‘there is a moose on the table’. How similar to the reserves crisis of 9 years ago.

We have seen the disasters of these policies (all carefully hidden behind the correct words spoken by eloquent ‘leaders’, usually of British and American background, yes I am a Dutchman). The last ‘real’ drilling man in charge of Shell worldwide drilling (good old Coen) had his hand on the brake of all 125 rigs and nothing escaped his attention. He had a jobgroup of A. There simply is no way he would have allowed the crap in Alaska we have seen. And yes, we used to have more blow-outs than nowadays and safety standards have gone up as have the costs per foot drilled. But basic mistakes like the Alaska stuff would not have happened. This was the era where one could speak out as a professional and not be afraid to be fired.

I have lost count but in order to attract the right bullshitters in drilling, substantial promotions were handed out and now there are presumably at least 5-6 guys at the level of jg-B. About time to put a head honcho to manage this little group at an even more elevated position? It reeks of jobs for the boys. How come that nobody dared say what everyone in the world saw (thanks to the Donovans) that you simply cannot go to this most sensitive area in the world with a couple of old rustbuckets? The timing of the most recent Shell reorganisation to buckets and superbuckets was very opportune. I wonder if there now exists also a rustbucket?

Not many other outfits (apart from the political world) would allow such incompetence without consequence. It looks as if Shell has turned into a political party. The problem is that they operate in a highly technological world that politicians do not understand. read more

Verdict on Royal Dutch Shell CFO Simon Henry

Shell internal email correspondence irrefutably proves that Simon Henry was aware in March 2002 that “reserves bookings were made that should not have been made”. Walter van de Vijver, the “sick and tired” Chief Executive of Shell EP, gave the information directly to him. As can be seen in the email, Walter van de Vijver aggressively accused Mr Henry of setting targets that were near impossible to achieve. The question arises of whether Mr Henry was a culprit, an accomplice, or an innocent bystander.

Cyber attacks on Royal Dutch Shell Plc .com website: perpetrators risk JAIL

Breaking News… Thursday 24 January 2013:

A 22-year-old is jailed for 18 months for carrying out cyber attacks with hacking group Anonymous. Christopher Weatherhead, of Holly Road, Northampton, was convicted last month for taking part in distributed denial of service, or DDoS, attacks on sites including Visa, Mastercard and PayPal.

He was sentenced at Southwark Crown Court along with Ashley Rhodes, 28, who was jailed for seven months after pleading guilty.

The pair were charged with conspiring to impair the operation of computers between August 1, 2010 and January 22, 2011.

Co-defendant Peter Gibson, 24, of Castletown Road, Hartlepool, was deemed to have played a lesser role in the conspiracy, which he also admitted, and given a six-month suspended sentence.

Jake Birchall, 18, from Chester, will be sentenced on February 1. He had also admitted the conspiracy. read more

Reputational damage to Peter Voser

By John Donovan

The mainstream news media is reporting that the reputational damage to Peter Voser and the Shell board arising from the Arctic meltdown is huge. The fact that Shell’s leadership is hopelessly incompetent comes as no surprise to us. No competent board with an ounce of commercial commonsense would allow this website to continue in existence, bearing in mind the damage it has done to Shell over the years by providing an outlet for Shell insider leaks. A Shell official has admitted our success in humiliating the company. Watts was a disaster, Jeroen van der Veer meekly surrendered Shell’s controlling stake in the Sakhalin II project and Voser has now been exposed as a hypocritical fat cat who poured scorn on BP, instead of minding his own ship. Why did Shell rehire Voser in the first place? Surely it would have been better to find someone not tainted by financial scandal to lead Shell after the reserves fraud? read more

How Chris Finlayson bungled the Mother of all Projects: Sakhalin II

Chris Finlayson representing Shell and Alexander Medvedev, Gazprom’s Vice Chairman

By John Donovan

Chris Finlayson, the newly appointed Chief Executive of BG Group, held a leadership position in Shell’s Sakhalin II project in Russia from September 2005 to September 2009. The venture was described as “the Mother of all Projects” by the Financial Times.

We have already published an article about his involvement in the Royal Dutch Shell reserves scandal, providing evidence – in the form of authentic Shell internal documents – supporting my conclusion that he was either part of the cover-up, or negligent in his fiduciary duties as a senior Shell executive to protect the interests of investors. read more

Shell and ENI’s billion dollar payment for Nigerian oil project could fall foul of anti-corruption laws

Screen Shot 2014-05-20 at 19.01.01

Screen Shot 2014-12-06 at 14.08.2712 November 2012

New information suggests that the US$1.1 billion paid by Shell and the Italian energy company ENI for a Nigerian oil block could fall foul of anti-corruption legislation and highlights the urgent need for strong disclosure laws across the EU. A directive being discussed by the EU Council and Parliament must require full “project-by-project” disclosure to ensure such payments are publicly reported.

The payments made by Shell and ENI in 2011 relate to a disputed Nigerian oil block, OPL-245.[i] Though Shell and ENI paid the Nigerian government, funds were then transferred shortly after to a company controlled by ex-Oil Minister, Dan Etete, who in 2007 was convicted in France of money laundering. According to the current Nigerian Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Mr Mohammed Adoke, Shell and ENI were fully aware and in agreement that the money would then be transferred to Etete’s company, Malabu Oil & Gas. Earlier this year he stated, “SNUD [a subsidiary of Shell] and ENI agreed to pay Malabu through the Federal Government acting as an obligor the sum of US$1,092,040,000…”[ii] Malabu first obtained the oil block in 1998, in controversial circumstances when Etete himself was the Nigerian Oil Minister under the country’s then-leader General Abacha. read more

I would like to bring another serious matter to your attention.

I refer to the constant attacks on our website royaldutchshellplc.com.

There are three strands to the activity.

DENIAL OF SERVICE ATTACKS

The first is denial of service attacks where the site is flooded with traffic. Times Online’s guide to the week’s business stories. By Bryce Elder

Shell seems as good a place to start as any. Third-quarter earnings growth at Europe’s second-largest oil company is expected to show the effects of hurricane-hit lower production.

Net income for the quarter is expected at between $4.37 billion and $5.92 billion, up 18 per cent at the median compared with $4.38 billion previously. That would be the slowest growth since the second half of 2004, when quarterly earnings surged by as much as 200 per cent as oil prices rocketed. Like BP two days earlier, Shell’s annual production target of between 3.5 million and 3.8 million barrels of oil equivalent per day may be at risk due to stoppages. read more

For poor Alaskan village, oil could change everything

WAINWRIGHT, Alaska – This small village is about to be taken over by big oil.

There are about 550 people who live here, most of them Inupiaq Eskimos. The remote village on Chukchi Sea has lived a traditional way of life as subsistence hunters for thousands of years.

In more recent decades, they have struggled with poverty and drug abuse. The geographical fate that makes them the closest spit of land to Royal Dutch Shell’s lease holds on vast offshore oil fields will likely change their lives in many ways. read more

Gripe Sites: Sue or Stew?

Extract from “Gripe Sites: Sue or Stew”

By William G. Pecau

Gripe sites can be more than forums for criticism. Because some are run by or receive contributions from former employees or anonymous current dissatisfied employees, some gripe sites have access to and post non- public information about a company or its employees. Some of this information is false, some of it might be embarrassing, and some of it might be very harmful to a company.

One gripe site www.royaldutchshellplc. com, run by a former employee of Shell, credits itself with costing Shell billions of dollars. It claims to have disclosed environmental violations by a joint venture in Russia’s Sakhalin Islands that allowed Vladimir Putin’s government significant concessions from the Shell joint venture. read more

ROYAL DUTCH SHELL ROBBERS AND RASCALS

ROYAL DUTCH SHELL ROBBERS AND RASCALS

“…Shell shareholders have to foot the bill for lawyers fees run up in the course of defending fat cat crooks, such as Sir Phillip Watts, the disgraced former Group Chairman of the Royal Dutch Shell Group. Sir Phillip ended up with a $18 million USD pension pot AND with all his ongoing legal fees being paid by Shell shareholders. This was after he had LIED AND COVERED UP THE TRUTH ABOUT SHELL’S RESERVES, AND IN THE PROCESS, DESTROYED SHELL’S REPUTATION”

By Alfred Donovan: Monday 12 Sept 2005

The press is having a field day in devising colourful headlines about the scandal ridden Royal Dutch Shell Group. An article in “The Sunday Times” yesterday had a story under the headline: “Shell move robs UK investors”. It reported on the horrendous tax implications for UK Royal Dutch shareholders resulting from the recent Royal Dutch/Shell unification and the dubious way in which Shell has dealt with the controversy thus far.

Yesterdays “Independent on Sunday” used the term “Clever Rascals” about Shell in a headline relating to the Sakhalin project in Russia and the potential ramifications in respect of the critically endangered western grey whale. For the record, the Encarta Online Dictionary definition of a “rascal” is: “dishonest person: somebody, especially a man, who is dishonest or otherwise unethical”. read more

Comments in an important judicial handbook recently published as part of the United Nations Environment Programme, imply that contrary to previous understanding, voluntary Codes of Conduct implemented by multinational corporations may be subject to rights of legal redress. As a result, it appears that legal remedies for corporate misdeeds may have now reached the doorstep of Shell in relation to its Statement of General Business Principles (SGBP) which solemnly pledge honesty, integrity and transparency in all of Shell’s dealings. How Shell pleased Qaddafi

It seems Shell violated its own principles in Libya…

SUMMARY OF AN ARTICLE PUBLISHED IN THE DUTCH MAGAZINE VRIJ NEDERLAND ON 1st AUGUST 2012 (TRANSLATED INTO ENGLISH)

Shell consolidated its interests in Libya by appeasing Qaddafi’s confidants with jobs for their children.

Ahmed Sawani was in 2006 a freshman in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Tripoli. In despite of the fact he just started studying, he got a job at Shell Libya. According to a comment in a leaked Shell document, Ahmad’s father was director of the Qaddafi Foundation, an acquaintance of the country chairman of Shell Libya, Mark Hope. Just like the Sawanis many other Very Important Persons are mentioned in the VIP document. The opposite also happened when a minister, Tahar Jehaimi, was relieved from his post and nothing was heard from him for a long time. It was mentioned as a reason for closing the file of his child. read more

Bad Publicity plus British Humour –  puts Shell on the defensive

An early retired pensioner takes on the Shell Group : an unequal duel, one might think? Very likely. Because, the Shell Group has no chance against him.

John Donovan is rapping the fingers of the Shell International Oil Multinational. For about ten years now, the early retired pensioner from the East English town of Colchester has been running a website: www.royaldutchshellplc.com. The Shell Group spends millions on image-polishing publicity, and Donovan only 150 Dollars for his internet website.  Donovan has published around 30,000 articles highlighting shortcomings of the British-Dutch Group. During drilling operations in water depths such as those expected by Shell, the vessel must remain in position within a watch circle of about 10m (7% of the water depth). If the vessel leaves the watch circle, the drillstring must be cut and the drilling riser disconnected at the seabed. read more

Shell’s Battle of the River Plate: largest ever oil spill in fresh water

The court will fine Shell 100,000 pesos (US$28,000) for each day it falls behind in the clean-up operation, the paper reported.

Protests about the biggest fresh water oil spill in history

By John Donovan

Printed below is a news report about the largest ever oil spill in fresh water. Shell was responsible for the spill, which occurred in the River Plate on January 15, 1999, polluting drinking water and local wildlife.

The Municipality of Magdalena and some groups of inhabitants of the small town with a population of around 8,000 initiated claims against Shell (owner of the oil and the ship responsible for the spill). All these years later some of the resultant litigation is still in progress. Many inhabitants of Magdalena were under age at the time of the oil spill and are still waiting for justice to decide on their claim. read more

The Gripe Site – Royal Dutch Shell vs. Robert Eringer

by LloydBricks May 17, 2012

One consequence of global anger about widespread banking fraud, corruption, and environmental devastation as of late has been the creation of the online ‘gripe site’ such as those by author, blogger and self-proclaimed ‘intelligence adviser’ Robert Eringer, along with the more popular site of Royal Dutch Shell. These are websites dedicated to exposing what their writers see as unfair, illegal or corrupt behaviour by individuals or companies.

Comparing the sites, Robert Eringer’s primary website could not be more different from royaldutchshellplc.com—one of the most well known of such sites. The numerous websites of Robert Eringer are a clear piece of self- promotion; alongside the half-baked conspiracy theories and wild claims of Eringer’s own personal involvement with powerful people are links to purchase his books. These include memoirs, spy thrillers and non-fiction books. All appear to have been self-published and not very well-received. read more

Shell sharpens up its in-house army of 600 litigators

Lawyers are not business people, however large a lawyer’s experience may be, in the conduct of business he is absolutely useless. A lawyer placed at the head of a concern would soon bring the business to rack and ruin.

By John Donovan

The Lawyer reports today that “Royal Dutch Shell has launched a new global disputes group to handle all of its litigation and arbitration, appointing Fulbright & Jaworski partner Richard Hill as the group’s associate general counsel.”

Shell kicks off global litigation group with Fulbright hire

It says that with his appointment, Shell will have 108 lawyers worldwide as part of a 600 strong in-house legal department.

Enough to cover multiple claims for IP theft, wrongful dismissal, human rights abuse, avoidable deaths of Shell employees, pollution claims, corruption allegations, and other unsavory litigation arising from Shell’s failure to abide with its own core business principles. read more

Today’s activists are giving business a bloody nose from behind their keyboards – not the barricades.

Revolutions used to happen in the streets – these days they take place online. And the targets are more often big businesses than bad governments. Banks, in particular, are feeling the brunt of grassroots internet campaigns.

Courts and trademark bodies are increasingly supportive of individuals and pressure groups when someone registers a domain name similar to that of their target so long as the site is non-commercial, with no subscriptions and no paid advertising. read more

ALLEGED BRIBERY AND CORRUPTION AT SHELL MOTIVA

The supplier in question advised us of a favored relationship Shell has had with a rival vendor. It became plain that unless they were prepared to abandon their own principles and hand out substantial bribes, they might as well give up trying to do business with Shell/Motiva. Contract/procurement decisions are allegedly made not on competitive pricing and first class support, but instead on the size and frequency of bribes. So its basically, cough up or give up. read more

John Donovan, Shell’s nightmare

Picture Caption: John Donovan in 2009. On his website, this former adman has posted more than 25,000 items on oil giant Shell.

Thanks to a network of “moles” inside the company, this early retiree from Britain is posting on his website reports on shortcomings inside the world’s largest oil group. It’s a dogged pursuit that has already cost the Anglo-Dutch giant several billions.

Christoph Giesen

The enemy is on his way. Waking early, he drives to London, leaves the car around the corner in a parking garage, and heads to York Road and the entrance of the Shell Centre, the headquarters of the most powerful oil company in the world. The Centre is a huge gray concrete block right by the River Thames. When the oil executives look out their windows, they see the British Parliament and the London Eye, Europe’s largest Ferris wheel. And now and then, peering down at the entrance, they can see John Donovan, the early retiree from Colchester in East Anglia. The man who is costing Shell billions. read more

U.S. Gulf Fuel Rises After Texas Refinery Reports Outage

U.S. Gulf Coast gasoline strengthened after Motiva Enterprises LLC reported a power failure at its Port Arthur refinery in Texas.

“Operations followed stabilize, slow down, and shutdown procedures to minimize emissions” after an electrical storm knocked out power, the company said in a filing with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. The failure caused emissions from a fluid catalytic cracker, the filing showed. read more

Oil Grab in Falkland Islands Seen Tripling U.K. Reserves: Energy

The world’s largest oil companies like Exxon Mobil Corp. and Royal Dutch Shell Plc face a dilemma: whether the potential of a virgin basin outweighs the risk of a worsening international dispute.

January 25, 2012, 7:20 AM EST

By Brian Swint

Jan. 19 (Bloomberg) — Thirty years after Margaret Thatcher fought a 74-day war with Argentina over the Falkland Islands, the prospect of an oil boom is reviving tensions.

Oil explorers are targeting 8.3 billion barrels in the waters around the islands this year, three times the U.K.’s reserves. Borders & Southern Petroleum Plc will drill the Stebbing prospect next month, one of three Falkland wells that Morgan Stanley ranks among the world’s top 15 offshore prospects this year. Meanwhile, Rockhopper Exploration Plc is seeking $2 billion from a larger oil company to develop the Sea Lion field, the islands’ first economically viable oil find. read more

The strategic application of Web 2.0 in the mining industry [Mining Engineering]

The introduction of Web 2.0 platforms (also referred to as social media), with their architectures of participation, has ushered in a new era of technological interaction and information exchange that is changing the nature of corporate-community communications. Web 2.0 platforms give users the ability to generate data collaboratively, meaning that more stakeholders maintain the expectation of being able to contribute to online dialogue. In light of these changes, it is important for business to consider how social media can be used strategically to enhance stakeholder relationships and increase business efficiencies. read more

6 Oil Wells On Sakhalin Go Offline

14 October 2011
Vedomosti

Dysfunctional oil wells at Sakhalin-2 are threatening to decrease production at the field in Russia’s Far East and could be indicative of more serious problems.

The problems on Sakhalin-2 in the Piltun-Astokhskoye oil field were documented in a government report to the State Duma on the implementation of the production sharing agreement, a copy of which was obtained by Vedomosti.

According to the report, the wells are not functioning “due to the need to remove a significant amount of sand after a water breakthrough.” This mishap prompted a shutdown of six of the 13 oil wells on the Astokhskoye section, where the Molikpaq Platform extracts oil. read more

Natural resources – they haven’t gone away you know

Liamy MacNally

The days are getting shorter and the lawyers are tripping over themselves in the noontime darkness.  Their cathedral minds are busy.  The Four Courts silver spoon still shines with looming cases.  The law does not always bring justice, even if the ladder of law has no top or no bottom!

A High Court judicial review of permissions granted for ongoing work on the Corrib Gas project is due to be heard on October 11.  The judicial review was sought by An Taisce and some local residents into permissions granted by An Bord Pleanála and the then acting Minister for Communications, Energy & Natural Resources, Pat Carey, for the pipeline and the Plan of Development.  The outcome could have serious implications for the Corrib project. read more

Shell, 2010

Keep your workers happy seems to be the message behind this leak. Energy giant Shell was rocked in early 2010 when a database of 170,000 of its workers was emailed out to human rights groups and environmental activists, including Greenpeace and royaldutchshellplc.com, a website run by anti-Shell campaigners. It was rumoured that the database was emailed out of the company by a disgruntled employee. According to The Times, a covering letter criticising Shell’s activities in Nigeria was sent out with the database, apparently signed by more than 100 workers in the US, Holland and the UK. read more
