Don Marketing founder, Alfred Donovan has issued a High Court writ for libel against Shell UK after it failed to retract a press statement of March 17 of this year (P&I April ’95).

A spokesperson for Shell said, “Shell intends to see matters through in court.”

Ethiopian employees accuse Shell of raiding retirement fund

By John Donovan

We recently published news of litigation brought against Shell by a trade union representing 90% of its Ethiopian employees. The article was authored by my father Alfred Donovan. We jointly operate a website described by the Financial Times as being “anti-Shell”: www.royaldutchshellplc.com

In fact our objective is to persuade Shell management to stand by the Shell Statement of General Business Principles pledging among other things, honesty, integrity and transparency in all of its dealings. If Shell senior management did operate on that basis, the reserves fraud and other scandals which have badly damaged the reputation of the oil giant in recent times could never have happened. read more

Royal Dutch Shell has this morning confirmed the authenticity of a leaked email from David Greer, Deputy CEO of Sakhalin Energy

Tuesday 05 June 2007

The information below has been supplied to me by a Sakhalin-2 insider. Mr Keith Ruddock, General Counsel of Shell Exploration & Production Shell International B.V. has today confirmed the authenticity of the leaked email. He said “I confirm that the email attached below from Mr Greer does appear to be authentic”.

I had previously made the point to Mr Ruddock that if confirmed to be authentic, which it is, the email supported the credibility of the information supplied from this source. The allegations are very serious. read more

ShellNews.net: more Sakhalin-2 insider allegations and an astonishing leaked email purportedly from David Greer

I have recently received further extensive information from the source of the article…

14/05/2007: Are these astonishing allegations about Sakhalin-2 true or false?

Further serious allegations have now been made by the same source.

Some examples: –

1. The deliberate manipulation and fabrication of information supplied to SEIC shareholders i.e. Gazprom, Mitsui and Mitsubishi.

2. The use of coercion against SEIC employees to persuade/force them to agree a timetable for a pipeline completion date of December 2007. The information reveals the importance of the date in question, why it is unlikely to be achieved, and the huge financial potential consequences. read more

WIPO refuses to order transfer of domain names critical of Shell

Legalupload.co.uk: WIPO refuses to order transfer of domain names such as tellshell.org that were critical of Shell

“The WIPO panel found that Shell clearly had rights in the Shell brand in 190 countries and the domain names were confusingly similar to Shell’s brand. However, Donovan had a legitimate interest in the names and had not registered them in bad faith as he was using them to exercise his right to free speech and criticise Shell.”

Shell, the multinational petrol business, has failed to persuade the World Intellectual Property Organisation to order the transfer of various Shell domain names to it under the Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy. Shell farcical No. 2 ranking in 2005 Accountability Rating in FORTUNE magazine

Royal Dutch Shell farcical No. 2 ranking in the 2005 “Accountability Rating” published in FORTUNE magazine

Tuesday 27 September 2005 08.15am ET

By Alfred and John Donovan

27 Sept 2005

How much faith can investors/stakeholders have in a rating methodology capable of conjuring up a ranking which has no relationship to reality?

Royal Dutch/Shell Group is No. 2 in the rankings of the 2005 “Accountability Rating” announced on 22nd September in Fortune magazine. This is a rating on corporate responsibility of the prestigious FORTUNE Global 100 companies. The Accountability Rating is apparently not a measure of how good or bad a company is, but supposedly how smart. It follows that by removing or diminishing the ethical dimension in a corporate rating assessment, a bad company can be made to look good. read more

Sir Phillip ended up with a $18 million USD pension pot AND with all his ongoing legal fees being paid by Shell shareholders. This was after he had LIED AND COVERED UP THE TRUTH ABOUT SHELL’S RESERVES, AND IN THE PROCESS, DESTROYED SHELL’S REPUTATION”

By Alfred Donovan: Monday 12 Sept 2005

The press is having a field day in devising colourful headlines about the scandal ridden Royal Dutch Shell Group. An article in “The Sunday Times” yesterday had a story under the headline: “Shell move robs UK investors”. It reported on the horrendous tax implications for UK Royal Dutch shareholders resulting from the recent Royal Dutch/Shell unification and the dubious way in which Shell has dealt with the controversy thus far.

Yesterdays “Independent on Sunday” used the term “Clever Rascals” about Shell in a headline relating to the Sakhalin project in Russia and the potential ramifications in respect of the critically endangered western grey whale. For the record, the Encarta Online Dictionary definition of a “rascal” is: “dishonest person: somebody, especially a man, who is dishonest or otherwise unethical”. read more

The Internet provides a low cost platform for anyone, even of modest means, to reach a global audience. It is the high-tech equivalent of having a soap box at “Speakers Corner” in London’s Hyde Park – that long-established bastion of free speech.

The net gives ordinary mortals the opportunity to publicly criticise the rich and powerful on what are known as “gripe” sites.

Some sites even legally use a dotcom name identical to a target company’s trademark. This is a remarkable development. It is based on a loophole which requires that the gripe site must be non-commercial with no subscriptions and no advertising involved. read more

Have you noticed that Jeroen van der Veer, the new CEO of Royal Dutch Shell Plc has invented a new hybrid form of the English language?

His opening address at the Business Week 2004 meeting of senior Shell managers held in Houston on 26 May 2004, provided an example of the jargon filled language he has developed. ShellNews.net: ROYAL DUTCH SHELL’S TARNISHED ROYAL PREFIX

Monday 22 August 2005: 09.15 EDT

By Alfred Donovan

My son John recently received his first letter from Royal Dutch Shell Plc. It proudly displays the royal crown of the Dutch royal family. The oil giant bears the Royal prefix because Royal Dutch has enjoyed a strong link with the Dutch royal family for over a hundred years.

Queen Wilhelmina of the Netherlands granted a royal charter to a small oil exploration company founded in 1890 by Jean Kessler, along with Henri Deterding and Hugo Loudon, which evolved into the Royal Dutch Petroleum Company. Queen Wilhelmina was a very shrewd investor and became the wealthiest woman in the world. At one time, the Dutch royals apparently owned as much as 25% of the oil company. read more

A report published in The Sunday Times today, reveals that Shell senior management has bought three Falcon jet aircraft creating a Royal Dutch Shell plc boardroom fleet of 4 luxury executive jets.

The cash to buy the jets is being generated by the one element over which Shell management has no control – record high oil prices and consequential humungous profits. Shell normally produces more than 1m barrels of oil a day in Nigeria as part of a joint venture with Eni of Italy, Total of France and the state-owned Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation. Shell is Nigeria’s largest oil producer.

The community groups from Rukpokwu, Rivers State, surrounded the Agbada 1 flowstation in the Niger delta, said Shell, shutting down 14,200 barrels of daily production. read more

The World Intellectual Property Organisation has appointed a panel to rule on the complaint brought against Alfred Donovan in respect of the domain names registered and used by him: royaldutchshellplc.com; royaldutchshellgroup.com and tellshell.org.

Since Shell has never previously expressed any interest in the two latter domain names which have been operational for such a long time that they have just been renewed, it is reasonable to conclude that Shell’s real interest is in the first name. It happens to be the name of the new public company – Royal Dutch Shell plc – which comes into existence tomorrow as a trading company. News of the latest Shell shocker – the $10 BILLION capital expenditure overrun in the Sakhalin-2 project in Russia is understandably making headlines around the globe. According to a report published yesterday in Mosnews, Royal Dutch/Shell CEO Jeroen van der Veer is claiming that he only learnt about this latest financial disaster last Wednesday and informed Gazprom on Thursday (Read the article). ROYAL DUTCH/SHELL is locked in a dispute with an 88-year-old war veteran who saw action in the Burma campaign and now runs a website, http://royaldutchshellgroup.com, that publishes material critical of the oil company.

The roots of the row between Shell and Alfred Donovan go back to the early 1990s and have to do with earlier marketing campaigns. Mr Donovan and his son John say they do not want money for the site, which Shell unaccountably failed to register.

But they will not hand over the rights to the domain name until the company “gets rid of the management” responsible for its various woes, notably last year’s reserves scandal. (I thought they had.) Shell is going to the Geneva-based arbiter of such disputes next month to try to strip the Donovans of the right to the name. read more

Proceedings commenced yesterday, 14 June 2005 in the Industrial Court in Miri, Malaysia, in respect of an action brought by Dr John Huong, a former Shell geologist for almost 30 years. The case went to court after all other avenues of resolving his claim were exhausted. The case continues today.

The Malaysian High Court Injunction obtained by eight companies within the Royal Dutch Shell Group regarding revelations by Dr Huong posted on this website remains in force. Dr Huong’s appeal for the action to be dismissed on grounds that it was brought against him in the wrong legal jurisdiction is pending. read more

Royal Dutch Shell disputes domain name

BigOil.net: Netherlands/UK: Royal Dutch Shell disputes domain name

Posted 10 June 2005

Shell has called on the World Intellectual Property Organization to rule on the use of the domain name www.royaldutchshellplc.com, which was bought by anti-Shell campaigner Alfred Donovan following the company’s publication of its name once its two parent companies are merged in summer 2005, Royal Dutch Shell PLC.

The website contains negative media articles about Shell. Shell hopes that Donovan will be banned from using the domain name.

Comment by Alfred Donovan: This is not a fair and balanced article. I am not campaigning against Shell but against its hopelessly incompetent senior executives, Jeroen van der Veer and Malcolm Brinded. These gentleman are implicated in the reserves scandal and have turned a blind eye to other serious misconduct at Shell. The libel courts are open to them if they wish to challenge my assertions. My website actually contains positive and negative media articles about Shell. It is not my fault that the negative articles have been far more frequent than the positive ones, mainly because of the reserves scandal. read more

Far from a fresh start for Shell

ShellNews.net: Royal Dutch Shell plc: Far from a fresh start for Shell

10 June 2005

By Alfred Donovan

The Herald, a Scottish newspaper, published an article today under the headline: “Chastened Shell sets out latest guidelines on oil reserves.”

The following is an extract: “Shell stunned world financial markets in January 2004 when it slashed proven oil and gas reserves, or oil still in the ground, by 20%, the equivalent of 3.9 billion barrels. Further, smaller disclosures followed along with the revelation that the group’s former management had known about the vast overbooking and lied to cover it up.” read more

Speculation of a Shell/BP Merger?

Speculation of a Shell/BP Merger?

6 June 2005

By Alfred Donovan

According to a report today by AFX, Shell’s chief financial officer Peter Voser, is going to say in an interview tomorrow that planned restructuring should make it easier for the oil company to participate in large-scale mergers.

Mr Voser reportedly will also say that the restructuring will enable the company to use its shares as acquisition currency. Presumably the reverse applies: it would be easier for a predator to launch a takeover of Shell.

Today’s report could tie-in with a story by Clay Harris in the Financial Times (published on April 21 2005) that “Royal Dutch/Shell has put together a team in The Hague with the sole purpose of making plans about how to fight off a hostile takeover.” Shell apparently refused to comment. read more

Shell Wages Legal Fight Over Web Domain Name

THE WALL STREET JOURNAL: Shell Wages Legal Fight Over Web Domain Name

By CHIP CUMMINS Staff Reporter of THE WALL STREET JOURNAL June 2, 2005

Later this summer, oil giant Royal Dutch/Shell Group is expected to merge its two parent companies, creating a new corporate entity: Royal Dutch Shell PLC.

But go to www.royaldutchshellplc.com and you will find a crude Web site in garish colors where Alfred Donovan, an 88-year-old British army veteran, posts dozens of media reports and commentary, most of it negative, about Shell and the accounting scandal that plagued it last year. Just after Shell unveiled the name of the new entity last October, Mr. Donovan — who has had frequent legal battles with Shell — snapped up the rights to the Web site. read more

TellShell: Should Shell sue The Independent newspaper for libel?

TellShell: Should Shell sue The Independent newspaper for libel?

By Alfred Donovan

Posted 12 Sept 04

I have no wish to monopolise the TellShell forum, but I really must comment on the news report by The Independent newspaper (11 Sept 04) that Shell gave $500,000 towards the cost of the lavish Royal wedding in Brunei. The report states: “The Asian wing of Royal Dutch Shell allegedly bunged in 500,000 Brunei dollars (about pounds 160,000).” The $500,000 gift has also been reported in other newspapers.

“Bunged” of course implies backhander, sweetener, kickback or bribe. If the news report is erroneous and Shell has not in fact “bunged in $500,000” towards the costs of the Royal marriage, will Shell be suing The Independent for libel? read more

The unpalatable truth about Shell Management

TELLSHELL: The unpalatable truth about Shell Management

“While the Ogoni people sit on top of oil fields, but remain abysmally poor, Sir Philip Watts sits on an $18 million (US dollar) pension pot. It is in my humble opinion simply obscene and indefensible.”

4 September 04

This message was posted on “TellShell”, the forum for supposed “lively debate” on the website of Shell.com. It was in response to comments posted by “Richard” who stated that “as a bemused onlooker with many years of overseas experience within the Shell Group, I find it hard to accept that Shell management is as corrupt, hypocritical and immoral as you depict, or that the Ogoniland campaigners are all the knights in shining armour that your posts suggest.” He also believes that I have made unfair comparisons between the Statement of General Business Principles and my view of Shell’s actual behaviour. His full comments can be read on TellShell under the topic heading “Our recent performance – what do you think?”. read more

Shell Chairman responsible for Shell’s descent into cover-up, scandal and shame – Sir Mark Moody-Stuart

The Shell Chairman responsible for Shell’s descent into cover-up, scandal and shame on an epic scale – Sir Mark Moody-Stuart

By Alfred Donovan, 27 August 2004

(This article was written at the kind invitation of Mr Charles Wiwa, the nephew of Ken Saro-Wiwa, for publication in a US newsmagazine circulated to university students. Charles Wiwa is one of the parties in a U.S. Class Action lawsuit being brought against Shell in respect of its misdeeds in Nigeria.)

It is now confirmed by the reports by the U.S. Securities & Exchange Commission and the UK Financial Services Authority that the deception regarding Shell reserves started during the tenure of Shell Chairman Sir Mark Moody-Stuart. He is identified in many newspaper reports as being implicated in the reserves debacle. As will become obvious when reading this article, the news stories naming Moody-Stuart came as no surprise to me. read more

sify.com: Ispat to source LNG from GAIL, Shell

Sunday, 08 August , 2004, 09:09

Ispat Industries Ltd is in talks with GAIL(India) Ltd and Shell to source natural gas to run its 1.2-million tonne per annum Dolvi sponge iron plant at full capacity.

The company is negotiating to obtain natural gas supplies of around 2.3 million standard cubic metres per day (mscmpd).

Ispat hopes higher supplies will boost profits significantly as the Dolvi plant has been running 35 per cent below capacity because of gas shortage.

The company’s net profit dipped by 46 per cent in March 2004 to Rs 44.32 crore compared to Rs 82.8 crore last year. This is in spite of a higher turnover of Rs 3,734.3 crore against Rs 3,108.27 crore achieved last year. read more
