Corrib Gas Project: Vermilion’s shameful tax avoidance deal

Screen Shot 2014-06-18 at 18.07.08

In order to facilitate intra-group financing, Vermilion was setting up a Hungarian company that would have a branch in Luxembourg, with an office, a desk, a telephone, fax number and one employee on its payroll.

News Release – Issued by Shell to Sea

November 7th , 2014 – For immediate release

— Corporation tax is only means of extracting revenue from Irish resources —

Shell to Sea has called on Minister for Energy and Natural Resources Alex White to clarify what impact Corrib Gas partner Vermilion’s Luxembourg tax avoidance deal – revealed in today’s Irish Times – will have on the revenue the exchequer thinks it will earn from the Corrib gas field. [1]

Spokesperson Maura Harrington said: “Under Ireland’s dysfunctional licensing terms, corporation tax is the only means the State uses to extract revenue from gas or oil found under Irish territory. Today’s revelation that Vermilion is using a Luxembourg tax avoidance deal to reduce its tax bill in Ireland raises serious questions for Minister Alex White and the Government.” read more

SHELL OSSL IRISH FABLES

Screen Shot 2014-04-18 at 09.24.17
Shell says the alcohol never existed. On the other hand, if it did exist, they have already paid for it as part of a full and final settlement with OSSL who, in addition to being bootleggers, may also be blackmailers demanding money from Shell over a bribery scheme.

THE AUDIO OF THE COVERTLY RECORDED CONSULTATION BETWEEN OSSL AND MR MARC FITZGIBBON OF THE LAVELLE LAW FIRM DUBLIN IS NOW ACCESSIBLE BELOW. APOLOGIES FOR SOME OF THE LANGUAGE USED BY MR DESMOND KANE.

By John Donovan

Subject to any technical glitch or legal challenge, I intend to publish on the Internet within a few days, a number of items of evidence relating to the OSSL corruption allegations against the Shell led Corrib Gas Consortium in Ireland.

The allegations include bulk delivery of free alcohol to senior Irish Police Officers by way of an extremely generous Christmas gift from the Consortium venture, which involves Shell, Statoil and Vermilion.

Some might call it a bribe.

OSSL, a small local company admitted purchasing the alcohol in Northern Ireland, transporting it across the border and handing it over to the Garda. All on the instructions of named individuals at Shell. read more

Declining coal production in the U.S.

From a Regular Contributor

The following link is about the approaching end of cheap and easy coal from the surface mines in the Western part of the US, specifically Wyoming. These reserves are approaching depletion. That is good for the planet but not necessarily good for electricity consumers in the US, China, and Europe.

The end of cheap easy coal? – Mountain Town News

However, the cost of renewable energy keeps dropping and is now almost cost competitive with coal, given that the price per ton of coal has doubled in the last 10 years. read more

Shell hypocrisy on climate issues

Screen Shot 2014-10-31 at 17.18.55“I didn’t know Shell was sponsoring this conference when I agreed to do it, but I’m glad for the chance to say in public that Shell is among the most irresponsible companies on earth. When they write the history of our time, the fact that Shell executives watched the Arctic melt and then led the rush to go drill for oil in that thawing north will provide the iconic example of the shortsighted greed that marks the richest people on our planet.”

FROM A REGULAR CONTRIBUTOR

A Bloomberg  Businessweek article by Ben Elgin has identified the blatant and self-serving hypocrisy by Royal Dutch Shell regarding climate change. Shell says one thing for public and media consumption, while quietly doing the exact opposite.

Extracts

Shell, on paper, may be one of the most progressive oil giants on climate issues. Last month, it joined a group of businesses calling on European leaders to target a 40-percent cut in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030. And in April, Shell signed the Trillion Tonne Communique, which urges governments worldwide to significantly cut carbon emissions in order to limit global warming to 2 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels. read more

Shell’s own goals in the Arctic: Over to you, Ann

Screen Shot 2014-08-06 at 09.25.26US authorities say a desire to avoid taxes lead Shell to move an oil rig in rough seas in 2012, which lead to its grounding.

Extract from an article published in The Sydney Morning Herald, 3 November 2014

When Ann Pickard says how sorry she is to be leaving the Westpac board after its shareholder meeting next month – just three years after taking her seat – there is no doubting her sincerity.

Chairman Lindsay Maxsted says that following the former Shell Australia boss’s “executive relocation to the US and expectations that her commitments in North America (as head of Shell’s Arctic operations) will increase in 2015, Ms Pickard reluctantly chose to retire from the board”. read more

SETTLEMENT DOCUMENTS SUPPLIED BY AN INSIDER SOURCE

Shell reached a settlement with the U.S. Department of Labor for failure to pay overtime in the USA.

Shell required Production Department Operators to make shift relief in full Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) but, the company would not pay individuals for the time necessary for donning or doffing PPE thereby violating the Federal Fair Labor Stands Act, which requires employees to be paid for all time worked.

Here are the two separate judgments for Shell and their alliance company “Motiva”. read more

SpaceShipTwo Explosion: Shell Prelude another pioneering venture fraught with risk

Screen Shot 2014-10-17 at 10.07.59The New York Times magazine has published an informative article by Robert Sullivan about Prelude, under the appropriate headline:

“The Biggest Ship in the World (Though It Isn’t Exactly a Ship)”

The dangers associated with innovative  technology, with potentially disastrous consequences, are heightened following the Virgin Galactic SpaceShipTwo rocket ship explosion in the US.

To obtain an overall assessment on risks relating to Prelude, the article by Robert Sullivan is best read in conjunction with a series of articles by experts triggered by a well-placed whistleblower directly involved in the equally pioneering Shell Prelude project. Includes articles by Bill Campbell, the retired distinguished HSE Group Auditor of Shell International and Hans Bouman, another retired Shell guru with a track record of spotting potential pitfalls in major Shell projects. read more
