Shell plans to accelerate charging points

Shell plans to operate 100,000 public charging points for electric vehicles around Britain by 2030, as it fleshes out its plans to invest £25 billion in the country this decade.

The oil giant said this would include 11,000 rapid machines — which can charge most EV batteries to 80 per cent capacity within half an hour — and would mean that 90 per cent of drivers in the UK would be “within a ten-minute drive of a Shell rapid charger”.

At present, the company has more than 5,000 on-street chargers and about 140 rapid and ultra-rapid charge points at its forecourts. The new targets for 2030 build on its previously declared goals of expanding these totals to 50,000 and 5,000, respectively, by 2025.
