Over a month has passed since The Observer published their whole page article by Ed Vulliamy:

Strange tale of Shell’s pipeline battle, the Gardaí and £30,000 of booze

Over a year has passed since we first published OSSL allegations on this website.

We also published an extensive related OSSL file in which OSSL mentioned the Shell sponsored free alcohol for the Garda in emails sent to high level Shell executives. Also in emails OSSL sent to senior Garda officers who had a hand in accepting the free booze generously supplied by Shell via OSSL as festive gifts in successive years.

No one challenged what was being stated about the alcohol at the time. What would you do if someone sent you an email containing information that unless challenged immediately, would potentially draw you into a corruption scandal. Would you just ignore it if you knew the information was false?

No one at Shell or the Garda then, later or currently, has been prepared to deny that the events alleged by OSSL took place, nor to state that a related OSSL invoice for one major consignment of alcohol is fake. Shell instead describes it as being “disputed”.

As far as I know both Shell and the Garda have non-independent internal investigations in progress once again after initial non-independent internal investigations unsurprisingly found no evidence. Strangely, OSSL was not even approached on the matter by the Garda and thus no witnesses statements were obtained from OSSL managers. If they had supplied sworn witness statements, that would have constituted bona fide evidence that would be subject to perjury law.

Apparently the Garda also failed to obtain a single witness statement from any Shell executive, manager, or employee.

If the Garda had acted competently, impartially, and with integrity, it would not have been able to announce that there was no evidence.

Instead, the internal non-independent investigation was a farce and a cover-up.

I have some unsolicited advise for Supt Thomas Murphy who is heading up the latest Garda non-independent internal investigation.

Assuming this time witness statements are obtained from OSSL and from relevant Shell people, including CEO Michael Crothers, pierce through the internal smoke, mirrors and camouflage by asking a straightforward question and demanding a straightforward answer.

Ask whether the events alleged by OSSL are factually based, or fiction?

Ask what, precisely, does Shell dispute about the OSSL invoice?
