EMAIL SENT ON 15 AUGUST 2013 FROM OSSL TO SHELL LEGAL BOSS, PETER REES QC

Dear Mr Peter Rees

I have read your impressive article about Royal Dutch Shell and the Rule of Law.

Do you really mean what you say about fighting corrupt practices and your insistence on honesty, integrity and respect for people by everyone at Shell?

I am sure you have heard of OSSL and our allegations.

Shell says there is no evidence to support them.

This is because Shell EP Ireland ensured that the audit trail evidence was all destroyed. We had to hand over all receipts.

What started out on a small scale as festive gifts, in later years expanded into an industrial scale operation, rewarding hundreds of Garda officers for their diligent support for Shell, steamrollering all opposition.

If you have seen the OSSL file published on the Donovan website, you will know that named solicitors and accountants were present during meetings about the free alcohol showered on the Garda policing anti-Corrib protestors.

Why not contact them yourself and ask if the events we have described are fact or fiction?

Perhaps journalists are already in contact with them?

Even better, pick up the phone and ask the current Chief Executive of Shell EP Ireland, Michael Crothers, a decent man who has got caught up in the legacy of his predecessors mendacity.

Michael knows that what we have stated is true.

Once you have confirmation please give me a call.

We don’t want to continue battering Shell on this matter. We want a fair final resolution.

That was all we were asking for when Peter Voser agreed to intervene.

As always with much respect

Desmond Kane
OSSL
