An Bord Pleanala Decision on Shell Corrib Gas Project

Comment by member of Celtic Tiger 5 – a dissident group of Shell employees working within the Corrib Gas Project in Ireland.

An Bord Pleanala (ABP) on June 1st 2006 ruled that three work activities in connection with the Corrib Gas onshore pipeline were not considered as exempted development and therefore required planning permission.

Mayo County Council in September 2005 had deemed these activities exempted developments and it was understood that planning permission was not required as it came within exemptions in the Planning & Development Regulations Act (Class 16, Section 2).

In the original Board decision published on June 1st, ABP stated that the valve station did require planning permission. On June 2nd the Board informed that there was a typographical error in their decision as published and will be amended to state that the proposed valve station does not require planning permission.

Was this favour to Shell by civil servants free or at some cost?
