LONDON (Dow Jones)–Royal Dutch Shell PLC (RDSA) Friday confirmed it has made a gas discovery in the Norwegian Sea, called Gro.

The discovery is estimated to hold between 10-100 billion cubic meters of recoverable gas according to the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate, which noted Gro is located in the greatest water depth of any Norwegian discovery to date.

A Shell spokesman located at the company’s Netherlands headquarters was only able to confirm a discovery has been made and couldn’t give any further details. The NPD said Gro is located 150 kilometers northwest of the Victoria gas discovery in the northern Norwegian Sea.

Shell owns 50% of Gro, StatoilHydro ASA (STL.OS) owns 40% and GDF Suez (GSZ.FR) owns 10%.
