ARMED GANG ATTACKS SHELL OIL PIPELINE IN IRELAND

DUBLIN (AFP)–A gang of about 15 masked men armed with iron bars and chains vandalized a Royal Dutch Shell PLC (RDSA) oil pipeline compound in the west of Ireland, police said Thursday.
Plans by Shell to land gas in County Mayo from the Corrib field off Ireland’s Atlantic coast have been dogged for years by protests.
The Garda (Irish police) said that during the incident late Wednesday, one member of the security staff at the Glengad site in County Mayo received an injury to his arm and needed medical attention.
“Up to 15 men wearing balaclavas and armed with iron bars and chains entered the compound and threatened the security staff,” the Garda said.
“A digger which was secured on the site was started by the intruders and used to cause damage.”
The project has all the necessary consents and permissions required by the various statutory bodies.
It has been given the green light by the government, planning and environmental authorities but a vociferous local group backed by green campaigners who do not live locally have continued to protest.
Corrib contains approximately 1 trillion cubic feet of gas, making it a medium-sized field by global standards.
It has an estimated field life of 15 to 20 years and would provide up to 60% of Ireland’s gas needs.

Deterding was the guest of Hitler during a four day summit meeting at Berchtesgaden. Sir Henri and Hitler both had ambitions on Russian oil fields. Only an honored personal guest would be rewarded with a private four day meeting at Hitler’s mountain top retreat.
