According to a release received on March 23 from Verna Rutherford, Motiva external affairs manager:

Motiva Port Arthur’s General Manager Todd Monette is transferring, effective April 1, from his current position into a corporate assignment within Shell’s Downstream Global Manufacturing group focused on implementation of key strategic initiatives across their Manufacturing sites. Monette’s initial focus will be providing support at the Shell Deer Park refinery, where he will have responsibility for helping the site leadership team deliver cost reduction targets across the entire site.

Monette has served in his current role since 2006, and he leaves a legacy in the Golden Triangle of personal concern for Motiva employees and a commitment to making positive impacts on Port Arthur and the surrounding communities, while operating the refinery in a manner which provided continuous improvement in its safety and environmental performance over the 3 year period. During his tenure, the site received both ISO-14001 annual certification and VPP Star status, signalling external recognition by OSHA and others of ongoing improvements in Motiva’s management systems for safety and environmental performance. During his tenure, he placed heavy emphasis on seeking opportunities for local residents and contractors, and he impressed upon his employees the importance of serving and giving back to the community. Monette got personally involved in many areas, providing leadership and resources for several organizations, while he also worked hands-on in the community. Most notable was his leadership with respect to helping many of his employees as well as surrounding communities respond and rebuild during and after Hurricane Ike.

“The last 3 years have been one of tremendous growth for me and my family as we came back to Texas to take on the challenge of leading this site during the expansion window. The Golden Triangle is one of tremendous leaders, excellent industry partners, and communities of high quality people. I was very glad to be able to represent Motiva and build the goodwill necessary to be looked upon as a valued neighbor within these communities. The leaders in SE Texas are some of the best and are role models that I valued learning from. I look forward to this new opportunity but will always have good memories of my time in the Triangle.”

The Motiva Expansion Project Venture Manager Forrest Lauher will succeed Monette as General Manager at the Motiva Port Arthur Refinery, also effective April 1.  Before taking up his current role, Lauher held a wide variety of technology support and operations leadership assignments including Fuels Research, Energy, Process Operations Manager, Downstream Capital & Portfolio Manager, as well as Site General Manager assignments.

Lauher began his Motiva career at the Port Arthur Refinery in 2004 as Technology Manager and has served as Venture Manager for the Expansion Project since June of 2005.

Lauher recognizes the importance of the base plant and the expansion project teams working closely together to ensure a seamless integration of the refinery as the project comes on-line in 2012.

“Both the refinery and expansion project teams have talented people who are dedicated to making this happen,”  says Lauher. “We are committed to continuing to work together to complete this epic expansion project, and to make the Motiva Port Arthur Refinery the best and the biggest refinery in the country.”  Forrest lives in Beaumont with his wife Mary Kay and four children.
